I am a grognard. I play historic wargames. Both board and miniatures. I'd say I'm a very good corps commander in Napoleonic or Civil War wargaming. I once commanded the Third corps of the Army of Northern Virginia in a postal game of the Battle of Gettysburg. The South won that battle. It was just a game. None of the players ever mentioned any political preference. I was just assigned my position by the gamemaster.

The following annoys me a little. I am very good at car racing on my computer. I mean really good. If I could I'd prefer to exchange my chess skill (if you could call it that), and my racing skill. I'd be a super GM, more likely above 2800 than below.

But it is about entertainment. People have different preferences. I believe most people sometimes does something to entertain themselves.

Perhaps there is a metric that grades entertainment so you can tell what's a fine entertainment and whats not. What you can spend your free time on and whats frowned upon. But I have not seen such a metric yet. So everyone must decide for themselves what they want to do.

Perhaps not, but you wouldn't be able to relax one second of that race.

Entertainment is a waste of time, period. You're gonna waste hours of your short life playing games?

Like chess? Yes, I will.

Chess is actually the one thing that may improve something in your life.
Playing racing games? Where is that getting you.

It's just that I cannot se much difference between various entertainments. If you waste one hour on this or that it's one hour wasted. I don't get any richer playing chess, I don't get any richer racing. Nor do I get more beautiful or whatever. One difference: It is more physically demanding moving the steering wheel and manipulating the pedals than playing chess. Granted, it isn't much of an aerobic exercise as such... Nothing significant changes if choose this instead of that. Chess, wargaming, racing or other games are way more active brainwise than just watching TV or a movie. But entertaiment is a waste of time whatever you do.

Think about this, you're 4 and you start playing video games for an average of 2 hours every day.

By the time you finish high school, that's 10,000 hours. What could you do with those 10,000 hours?
Well if you are in college and high school you study 12 hours a week, you're a straight A student who will get a good scholarship and finish his master's degree by 6,000 hours

With the remaining 4,000 you could apply deep practice and be a Super GM.

Actually, the threadripper 2, the current best CPU on the market, only has 32 cores. And that is considered the most cores ever on a CPU if I am not mistaken. So quit lying.

There's obviously more productive ways to spend your time but if you enjoy playing video games, you can't call that a waste of time.

 And now that we're in this conversation, how does storage at all effect your gaming experience. I mean if you have 50 tb of mass storage that's all well and good. You wasted a thousand dollars. if you're gonna be pc gaming though, you just use a SSD and you're fine.

Any reasonable nerd would name his GPU over his storage. Wtf are you on about superchess.
