It seems the climate change and global warming = Problem solved ... next topic! Smile

Take your pick...

  • tackling biodiversity loss
  • feeding the world
  • global financial crisis and economic growth
  • causes and solutions to poverty
  • world conflicts
  • social and geographic inequalities
I think I fancy becoming an armchair 'expert' on biodiversity...

What Is Biodiversity?

The variety of life on Earth, its biological diversity is commonly referred to as biodiversity.

The number of species of plants, animals, and microorganisms, the enormous diversity of genes in these species, the different ecosystems on the planet, such as deserts, rainforests and coral reefs are all part of a biologically diverse Earth.

Appropriate conservation and sustainable development strategies attempt to recognize this as being integral to any approach to preserving biodiversity. Almost all cultures have their roots in our biological diversity in some way or form.

Declining biodiversity is therefore a concern for many reasons.

I hope this works! I read some IPCC reports and concluded that of the only way to stop it is to reduce CO2 emissions by using less energy and so as the politicians plan, then we are screwed. Human nature being what it is, we simply arent able to reduce the emissions to ZERO which is what is needed. Reductions are just buying us time to the point where the atmosphere reaches CO2 concentrations that make for a 6 degrees temperature rise and then we are dead.

Was more hoping that the climate scientists just are wrong, which I dont really believe, or hoping that somebody somewhere would invent a thing that created some energy cheaper than oil without emitting CO2.

"Feeding the World" is interesting so long as the world become vegetarians. I'm ecomomically ignorant, so I'm helpless with "Global Financial Crisis and Economic Growth" as well as "Causes and Solutions to Poverty". I'll probably have to stick with "World Conflicts" with a bit of "Social and Geographic Inequalities".Wink

C02 is natural fertiliser for all plant life... carbon dioxide + water (+ light energy)    →    glucose + oxygen = photosynthesis!  The most efficient power supply in the world.

if we have found a way to artificially mimic what happens in plants; with a different end output obviously, we can create an endless, inexpensive supply of gas and electricity to power our lives.

World conflicts is an easy one... we could take a load of pre-menopausal women from every country in the world, arm them with a few automatic weapons, chocolate, tight pants and a few hand-lobby grenade thingies and drop them into the centre of the conflict... and allow them and mother nature to do what comes naturally...

Lets try peace first and have your idea as the threat, okay?Laughing

Thanks owltuna for another fantastic opportunity to promote my favourite philosophy!

I'll take "Geographic Inequalities" for $200 Alex.  In 2012, The United Nations said this country is a disaster waiting to happen? Undecided  "What is Nepal"?  CORRECTSmile  There's a lot of problems trying to get help into those areas.   "You now have control of the board, Go again".Wink

The IPCC, the UN 's lapdog, was cought red handed fudging temperature data on a wide scale for political gain and popular prestige. Thousands of hacked emails reveal a

climate scam of epic proportions.

It's a bunch of flim flam artists peddling their snake oil for personal profit, popular prestige, and political power and control around the world.

Guys like Al Gore have made hundreds of millions of dollars peddling their snake oil on unaware sheeple.

He's even got a 50,000 square foot mansion ( there's a heck of a carbon footprint), and jet sets around the world in his private jet spewing gas everywhere.

What a gas bag. Every time he speaks he warms the environment by a couple of degrees. 😂

CO2 is just good ol' plant food, the more CO2 around the more trees for us all and that's a good thing because they produce oxygen for us to breathe.

Don't listen to all the horse manure being thrown our way by all these BSers and flim flim artists. They've got enough manure to fertilize an entire country. 😉

From the site:

I don't think there's much hope of humans becoming less dense. If you doubt that, just read the forums, or God forbid, YouTube comments.

I get in those moods myself, owltuna, so I get where you're coming from. But there are some very compassionate people on this planet worth finding and keeping in mind when those dark moods are upon usWink

Mr. Shah (from Global Issues, above) appears to be an "expert" in nothing more than webpages and compiling links.  Doesn't that bother anyone ?  Just asking.  Smile

And why is it that virtually all topics on Chess.com seem to become "Hot Topics," with just a few follow-on posts ?

"Inquiring Minds Might Want to Know."  Tabloids notwithstanding.

Babytigrrr

When I go onto a website, and I find it easy to digest, the language is 'at my level' of understanding, it has links to peer-reviewed sites and it's well laid out... then I usually start from there to pique my interest.

If I want to learn more, then I might move onto a more scientific site... and so on.  I knew very little about biodiversity, now I still know very little but I know a little bit more than I did.  Thanks to Mr Shah.  So, it doesn't bother me. Wink

As for why virtually all topics on CC seem to become 'Hot Topics', with just a few follow-on posts?  hmmm.... Dunno!

zborg

So stick to "word game threads."  That's a safe bet, if all you want is traffic.

Otherwise this thread was "Hot for a Day," but now gone away.  Wink

Babytigrrr

Thanks zborg, your opinion matters to us.  Please stay on the line...

zborg

And now this thread is "Hot" again.  After a 1/2 day hiatus.

Who would have thunk it ?  The joke's on us.  Laughing

Poverty?  Why?

This thread shows a good attitude.  That works in its favor.
