What can  you do, as a black belt, in a position like the one pictured in the cartoon  below? If you're the guy,  and if you're the gal?

To be honest, I think that most marshal arts are not practical. Things like karate, for example.

Hehehehehe2024

A black belt in what, exactly? Because karate is what I was referring to.

I'm not formally trained in any martial art, but I do understand some basic tactics from several fighting styles(very basic) And yet, even with limited knowledge of such things, I know from experience that I can beat your average street thug in a fight. Based on my own experience, and the experience of my dad, and various other persons in my life, martial arts don't mean a dang if you can't take pain. In a real fight, I mean, not in practice.

In full honesty, I need to add, as I've done 2 years fencing, I know I can win x hits to zero, anyone who never learned a similar art, in a sports confrontation.

Now, if I had to face some stranger in the street, blade vs blade, I'm not so stupid, and I know, that if I was promising myself victory out of my sports education, I would be buying to myself a free ticket to the cemetery.

If some martial arts practitioners, experienced having it easy with street fights, for one thing, they need to understand they've been just lucky so far. and also understand, they need to be gratefull, their temper and mood suited the situation, and that not everybody is made like them, and that, if some martial art training can insuflate some confidence in someone, that confidence can also backfire, as it's not fully justified, by far.

In an attempt for an analogy to what I'm saying, a Chess GM would be randomly efficient, if, in a street Chess game, their opponent would suddendly grab the wooden Chessboard, and try to hit them with it. The GM's Chess skills would be of just zero use in such moment.

not if his chess experience makes him buy a vinly one

The point I'm trying to make is that some marshal arts have changed from their original form and become a complex and useless art, while others are highly useful and even lifesaving.

@Tanya

You just sound very insecure.

I think it's a completely pointless argument. Just go and try things for yourself.

Guarantee you quit before the end of the very first session. I'd put money on it.

Do you ever trip when attempting a round kick?

Or is there a way to guarantee balance?

Mmmm, lots of fancy talking for not much, imo. I really think, there is to much wrapping in fancy talking of these martial arts and close combat things, that could be said in much soberer ways. Like I see lots of totally pointless moves in martial arts public demonstrations. Lots of theater in it all.

I'm not saying martial arts are useless or ineffective all the time, but they're much glorified katas, when the ego, hidden behind fake "oriental style" humility begins the "bragging" in order to impress the audience. Very probably an unconscious thing btw...

So stupid.

Say all this next time u see someone actually trained in martial arts on the street, lets see how long u last before ur skulls bouncing off the kanvas.

Sure Sonia, only had about 200 street fights in my life, and need the advices of an expert like you!

But I did say such things to (so they said) former Legionaires and other former "Elite" guys. Nothing much happened.

It does not happen, you cross the path of someone in the street, and they go telling you "Beware, I'm trained in martial arts!"

Life is not a movie Little Sonia.

(Skulls bouncing blah blah blah, hilarious! )

200 fights?

What the bloody hell is wrong with you?

Last fight I was in, I threw someone onto concrete, and it took their ear off.

Two elderly people got in a fight over a parking space recently. One punched the other, and it killed him.

So maybe you see why it's not a good idea to have hundreds of fights.

You should defend yourself and your friends/family, not going around starting on people.

200 fights, you are definitely the one starting them.

Problem5826

Like I say, insecure girl bigtime.

Problem5826

You were talking so much nonsense that can be dealt with by simply going to a single session (which I'm 100% sure you wouldn't make it through).

Why have you not bothered to do this if you are so interested in the subject? It literally takes one evening.

Bizarre.
