Fide and the Iranian gov. are currently having discussions over the ussue. Their law states the hijab must be worn "outdoors" . The event is in Feb. Alot of people are making a rush to judgement, making alot of assumptions about an event 4 months off. Why not wait until further facts are known ?
One might argue that FIDE and Iran wouldn't be discussing it if the issue hadn't been raised so vehemently in anticipation.
....in the meantime, it is great for promotional purposes.
FYI Nazi P. has not made an official declaration with Fide about not playing. She remains the only participant to publicly say she will boycott. Many have expressed their dislike of the policy but it remains to be seen how many will place their professional careers on hold.

One could say the event would not be taking place, no one to challange for a WC if Fide did not accept the bid. Iran is actively promoting chess, held several large events of late, one for woman only with no problems or issues.

Protest of cruelty to fish, specifically the methods used in netting the buggers, has resulted on a ban of "fish and chips" in my small town here in the desert. Rattlesnake burgers are popping up on every corner.
