Kids explore this sort of thing (ideas for a popular thread)... but I always feel like ones like this stop at square one.

"Oh ok, I'll name it 'please post in this topic' that'll work"

At least you're almost including the essential element... "this thread's life is in your hands" i.e. you're giving some entertainment value (personifying the thread).
So yeah... it's about entertainment value. People will post if you make it a fun place to post. You have to think about them... don't ask them to think about you "please post in my topic because I want a big one"
