I think there are a lot of people who are falsely thought to be "sockpuppets". For instance immediately after creating my account I was bombarded with false accusations of being a "sockpuppet". It's not my fault my name happens to be similar sounding to a long time member of this website.  I'm just a poor working class stiff from Orlando who wants to unwind playing a little chess.

Anyone up for smoking a J?

a name plus avatar match.  must be totally coincidental.

"The opposite of who I am in real life would be a serious, hardworking, middle class traditional American. "

a working class stiff, wow a direct opposite.

wonders never cease on chess.com

Blah.  Get a life, you dork.  By the way, the member TK Bunny is a returning sockpuppet of former member "Fuoaded" from 2011-12, who was banned from the site for being highly annoying and trolling.

Of course this young man seems to have done way too much ecstacy since his "Fuoaded" days -- at least he was semi-coherent when trolling two years ago.

Very pleased to see how this thaing is developing.

It is the mind we are after , not the person.

Very mature and brave of Mr.Muscha to come out of the closet. He gave us a very "logical" reason for multiple accounts : revenge for account being closed. I at least can understand that.

I have thought about the questions I raised here but I haven't formed an opinion. I first have to understand things better and even then chances are I still won't have an opinion !?

I try to interfere with this thread as little as possible and maybe only keep it from derailing (too soon , hihi). Of course , I read and re-read every serious post.

TKbunny is annoying and adds little or nothing. Yesterday I blocked him from this thread for 12 hours , just to let him know.

Today he resumed being an arse so now I blocked him for the duration of this thread.

Normally I don't block people . Freedom of speech is holy to me , but freedom of reply too. Treat people the way you want to be treated.

There is nothing like a frustrated troll not being able (allowed) in the playground.

Please , carry on .....

Its cuz they are all saddo creeps. Women probably do it to stop getting unwanted attention from other male creeps...

PlentyOToole

Ah the serenity of being incognito!

I think Plenty hits the nail in some way. Most of us use to wear some kind of mask to certain point even in real life, what can you expect in the Internet? But we use to exaggerate or put attention on the best things of us (sorry if is not good English). I don't think it would be very usual to show a character opposite to ours.

But people who is definitely not happy with themselves or the way they are living their lives will probably need something more radical. You cannot pretend to be much smarter or worthier than you really are, but you can show yourself as very aggressive, or as a tough guy, even as a member of the opposite gender. Then, there will be a different ultimate reason for each person, but I think some discomfort about their own real persona remains in the background.

Babytigrrr

Interesting ... some of you are being very open and honest.

Plenty: tell me more ...

Pulpofeira

Yes... I'm still stating I'm so party-lover, but the truth is I'm wiped out yet...

Pulpofeira

This topic will be stuck unless somebody new comes with different points of wiew. Changing topic, what I don't get is the behaviour of the people who feel concerned with some 'sexy' female profiles here. I'm not talking about people who simply leaves a kind comment, but the bunch of hunters who become hunted we noticed about in Sunshine and Underwear guy threads.

Pulpofeira
I'm not stating you can't keep an online relationship, but you should be even more careful than in real life. But a lot of people seem to do the exact opposite. Probably they feel safe, even if they show themselves they can cross the line without any consecuences. But they don't think the same counts for the other person? They simply don't know who is talking, this is like chasing an ghost for me.
Babytigrrr

Interesting Pulp.  You reckon the people who believe the sexy_sunshine-type profiles of this site have a bigger problem, or have bigger issues than the actual person posing?

It's not just the 'obviously outrageous' profile that could be misleading either.

Anyone on this site could be the total opposite of who they say they are. But I personally don't thaink they can keep it up too long unless they have schizophrenia.

When typing ... you can't help but type the words that are in your head, because that's where they came from.  Therefore, you are what you say, or at least that's what they either desire or maybe enjoy doing.

However, it is in the mind of the reader what they have in their mind's eye about the poster and how they visualise them is based on what they have said.  Like a character in a book.

Pulpofeira

I agree, many of the posers will be perhaps much more subtle. As I said, the ultimate individual reason is absolutely personal, I guess. If I'm not wrong, Musacha introduces himself as a sort of storyteller. Just for the lolz, brah? But I think some of the serious performers (and I remember one case who didn't need either to create sockpuppets) could be people with problems. I always though performing is a dangerous job, even for professional actors/actresses.

Pulpofeira

I hope not be sounding very confusing, and not being off topic about miss J's post. English is like hell to me, that's why usually I avoid serious topics.

pelly13

You are doing fine Pulpofeira. Receiving you loud and clear, No worries.

Pulpofeira

Thanks, Pelly.

This is interesting: recently a friend told me about a writer (unfortunately she doesn't remember his name) who stated having four fake profiles (three male and one female) in different internet sites. They were well developed characters and it was interesting for him to see how they were growing up in their interaction with other users. So, at the end, each sockpuppeter has his own motivation...

Babytigrrr

A writer?  Interesting... So they were doing it to develop characters in a book and to see how people interacted with them... I suppose that would make sense.  He/she would certainly have the motivation to do that and the time also.  They would need to keep spreadsheets I would guess on each characer's traits.

Most multiple sockpuppet accounts I think have very little (if any) personality.  It would be, I'd imagine, too hard for someone to keep up different personalities to their own across multiple accounts.

I know a lot of writers take real people's personas from their own world and develop them into their book's characters.  Sometimes to the detriment of that person.

Pulpofeira

This is why I guess are the sockpuppetters who can be people with problems, if their product is really good (unless they are writers or actors). About the bunch of 'likesunshine' fans, I think there could be people who feel a real concern, but most of them probably are a sort of net fishers who don't care too much about being trolled or insulted. Just as that classical guy all of us have heard about, who stands at the exit door of a factory where all workers are women, and simply ask all of them for a date, one by one. Finally he success at least once a week.

On a positive note, it's a peaceful way to keep the population down.

Women act like men because they've been brainwashed by the new world order cultural marxist social engineering agenda of 'divide and conquer'. They think it empowers them but it only makes them unhappy as they act against their natures. Feminism make men and women incompatible leading to less marriages and less families, thus less social cohesion.
destruction of social cohesion is an important part of the 'elite's' divide and conquer agenda to make society easier to manipulate.

Whenever I encounter someone who uses the phrase "Cultural Marxism" I always make a mental note to myself: don't listen to anything this individual says about anything.
