Since George Bush 41, We've had two extremely distructive wars in Iraq and the longest war in our country's history in Afghanistan. Most of this has been paid for with borrowed money.

Setting potential wars in Israel and the Ukraine aside, we're talking about fightig Isis, invading Syria, and sending thousands of advisors back to Iraq.

Isn't it time we dealt with problems like uemployment, crumbling infrastructure and lingering racism in this country?

We have to be prepared for threats to this country, but that is not what Iraq and Afghanistan were about. They were about profit for the miitary - industrial complex and maintaining our fossil fuel empire.

You would have to go all the way back to 1941, to find a country which the U.S. has invaded, bombed, or paid mercenaries to overthrow the governments, which have actually threatened this country. Seventy-three years ago. Since then, the united state's foreign policy has certainly been the worst on earth. I agree that it is long-overdue for our tax dollars to create a respectable government, and a military which is actually for defensive purposes alone.

CSPAN has had several authors recently who have documented the fact that the USSR never was the threat to us that the government led us to believe they were. This is why Eisenhower  warned us not  to trust the military industrial complex.

Here is a link to an extraordinary documentary which explains a lot of what the U.S. has done and continues to do on foreign soil. It was a revelation to me years ago and I'm due to watch it again soon. I hope everyone can get in the mood and find time in their lives to sit down and watch this. It's from the BBC in 1992, and is two and a half hours long, but it is so eye-opening that you'll never be in the dark again about what this government involves itself in:)

I don't understand why there isn't more vocal resistance to our various military commitments. I'd hate to believe it's only because our military is all volunteer. I know that some large war protests in Chicago were covered by local but not national news outlets. Is it a question of awareness?
