Net Neutrality

What is the point of it?

The point of Net Neutrality is to control what you can see on the internet. It is an attempt by the socialist/progressive left to restrict your first amendment rights of freedom of speech and right of access to public information.  As the vast majority of our newspapers, television programs, and other news media sources are already controled by the left, they now want to control the internet. There is nothing good about net neutrality. Control of the news media is a primary objective of any socialist organization or government. Here in these United States we don't call them socialist, of course. That would not be politically correct. Here we call them democrates, liberals, or progressives. Of the same ilk one and all.

I'll probably agree with you. Internet is mostly anonymous body, and why there should be neutrality or any sort of protection, that I don't understand.

"Protection of the public" is a common phrase used by people who are seeking to sensor, or restrict the use of, something whether it be information, entertainment, guns, food, or whatever. This is a continuation of the theme started decades ago to control the American people and tell us what we can and cannot do. I don't know how old you are but I am 65 and have witnessed the erosion of our rights for a very long time. It is called progressivism now. Not so long ago it was called communism.

It won't work, though. Not without increasing government tech staff by about 50X... Too many people know how to get around the internet better than our own government does...

Hackers would rise up and destroy the government in an all out cyber war if they were stupid enough to try to censor the internet. I can only think of two countries where censorship worked, and it only worked because the governments of both countries would happily kill you if you didn't fall in line with what they say you can and cannot do/see/hear.

NomadicKnight, there are entire agencies in the U.S. government that were created to do a specific job that do not even come close to doing their job. A classic example is the Department of Energy. When created its sole purpose was to work toward energy independence for America. Today we import far more oil than we produce while the oil reserves (in the ground) of America far exceed those of the entire middle east. Yet this agency employs tens of thousands of people. So you don't think the DHS and NSA along with other agencies of the government could restrict what is available on the internet because a few hackers might get angry? The internet can be shut down with the flip of a switch. Once a server is shut down no amount of hacking will bring it back. If you think our government is above this you haven't been paying attention to what's been going on in America for the last six plus years.
