I'll try and find you a programme I saw years back on a well known haunted dungeon. People for many years have come out of it citing ghostly experiences. So a team went in with lots of equipment.
They didn't find any ghosts, but their sound equipment picked up a frequency resonating that wasn't audible to our ears, but it's a frequency that's used to put people on edge.
So, when people were in that heightened state of alert and fear, they thought they saw and felt and heard things that just weren't there.
Or maybe a slight noise that we would normally not hear or ignore, or a slight breeze, and when people are on edge we pick it up.
add that to the fact the place is supposed to be haunted and obviously people were spooked.
Ok I'll give one episode a go, I've seen those type of shows before though and they're usually a let down.
