Nice
How are the extended books in the series?
(I’ve only read the trilogy, and The Hobbit).

#26 slow going but really interesting it's mostly notes and earlier drafts. I would definitely recommend going and watching nerd of the rings (that's his channel name) on YouTube if you're into LOTR that's the place to go

I’ll check it out at some point

Also, isn’t pretty much the entirety of LOTR slow going? Specifically, TFOTR

#28 that guy really goes into the lore I'm pretty sure he's read every single one of tolkien's Middle Earth books at least twice

💀
It would take me at least 3 years to read each of them once
Avatar of badcrawdad

#30 I wouldn't say so but I would say all of the books Christopher Tolkien has published which are compiled notes and drafts are going to be slow

Ah
I see
(I mainly think the books are slow cuz I watched the movies first, but they still seem pretty slow to me)

I read The Hobbit the entire LOTR series in under a month probably about 3 days per book

Avatar of badcrawdad

Which one do you prefer the movie or the books?

It takes me at least 1 month for one of those books (I only really read for 30-60 mins before I go to bed)

The Hobbit was goated
Avatar of badcrawdad

#37 the thing is The Hobbit was meant to be a book with no sequel Tolkien specifically wrote it to make sure there was no sequel and yet there is

I like The Hobbit book better
I like the LOTR movies better for me thinking the books are slow
The Rings of Power tv series is better then all of em tho
(I didn’t include War of the Rohirrim cuz I haven’t read the book that is based on yet)
Avatar of badcrawdad

The funny thing is there wasn't supposed to be a sequel to The Hobbit JRR Tolkien specifically wrote it so there would be no sequel

#44 whoops I thought my first one didn't post

Technically, it is a standalone book
LOTR is a different timeline, with The Hobbit being an optional part of the story
Avatar of Peskybird_flies
Also, he didn’t really have much choice to make a sequel or not
Pretty much everyone who read The Hobbit wanted him to expand
