You dropped the f-bomb, so you must know what you're talking about. When have "socialist - liberals" been in a position to do anything since Reagan's presidency? By comparison, the fiscally conservatve party that is supposed to know about economics had both houses of congress and the executive branch for six years, and what did we get? Tax cuts for the 1% while we were financing two wars with money borrowed from China, a nation that plays games with it's currency so it can dump products here! We got a massive prescription drug benefit for seniors that was designed to be a give away to pharmacutical companies. They wrote the legislation! I've given you specific facts. If you must respond, please do the same. Try to avoid the salty language; no one will take you seriously.

You've given nothing.

IT WAS THE WARS ENGAGED AFTER RAEGAN that began to work to our detriment. Having eight years of Bill Clinton's stooges didn't help, and I can't say bush was the best either. He was a bit too worried about reelection in a shaky and emotional 21st century society. His mistake. Meanwhile, Raegen was trying to clean up after Jimmy Carter.

Back in the days when we cut social spending across the board, we were in good hands. Unfortunately, we didn't have enough of it.

You didn't drop the f-bomb, so you must be full of wisdom.

Either that or stuck-up to the core.

Discussion of politics doesn't belong here.

Would you extend that to sudsidies for business? Would you eliminate corporate tax loopholes? Oil companies couldn't do business without military support to bring oil from the Persian Gulf. Shouldn't we get stock or something for our tax dollars? Would you support an initiative to spend our defense dollars more efficiently?  We waste at least half of what we spend on the military. We could buy everthing we buy now for half the cost, so it's not a readiness issue. Military spending is about a quarter of discressionary government spending. Wefare was never more than 2%, but we found the will to reform that. Here's a good market based solution to healtyh care expenses: eliminate the anti-trust exemption that the insrance companies recieved whie Reagan was president. Would you support that? Would you eliminate the tax breaks that corporations recieve for moving jobs overseas? The GOP always opposes spending that benefits the middle class (extension of unemployment benefits, for example) but always finds a way to pay off corporations. Is that the kind of country you want to live in?

I was in college when the "New Wave" period began. The Cocteau Twins share a common chronology, but they're hard to categorize.

Would you extend that to sudsidies for business? Yes. Why is my corporation any better than yours? Or better than the individuals who make it without my crappy corrupt business? Would you eliminate corporate tax loopholes? Loopholes, yes. I don't want to be specific on saying "just end everything" or exactly what. The devil is in the details. But spending must be cut in many places. Oil companies couldn't do business without military support to bring oil from the Persian Gulf. WTF? Shouldn't we get stock or something for our tax dollars? WTF? Would you support an initiative to spend our defense dollars more efficiently? Yes, absolutely. And far fewer of them. We don't need to be occupying the entire middle east to defend us. We waste at least half of what we spend on the military. So true We could buy everthing we buy now for half the cost, so it's not a readiness issue. Military spending is about a quarter of discressionary government spending. Again, Clinton and Bush, along with Kennedy and Johnson, supported foolish wars. Wefare was never more than 2%, but we found the will to reform that. Welfare later becomes an entitlement society. We are providing more than basic needs these days, and it is costing too much. I really don't give a flying hoot about the percent. Here's a good market based solution to healtyh care expenses: eliminate the anti-trust exemption that the insrance companies recieved whie Reagan was president. Oh, please. Just imagine the anti-trust violations the government will be committing with socialized medicine. And leftists are screaming about Walmart. Would you support that? Would you eliminate the tax breaks that corporations recieve for moving jobs overseas? Like usual, you use such tricky language. Of course you cannot tax something when it is somewhere else. The reason we are being outsourced is because of the overbearing taxes here. The GOP always opposes spending that benefits the middle class (extension of unemployment benefits, for example) but always finds a way to pay off corporations. Obama has been quite successful in favoring the Wall Street bankers, only so that he could blame his opponents for making them corrupt and wealthy. The beurocracy gets away with so many things. Just goes straight to the GOP's slate. "No, we didn't fucking do it. It was those idiots over there who lost power two years ago." Is that the kind of country you want to live in?

@DCMS We actually agree on a couple things. Why can't our politicians make them happen? I think CJ's worried that her thread will be shut down for political content, so I'm going to have to bow out of this discussion. Maybe you could post your own thread.

It's a fun thread. Given the recent history of locking/deleting threads, we might be too late to avoid it. I still can't believe yesterday's cat thread got deleted.
