should robots have rights?

Is unplugging your toaster considered murder? If machines gain sentience should they be allowed to have basic rights? The argument goes on to say rights are only necessary if rights are wanted, would a robot care if its disassembled if it cant feel pain or fear death? Would it care if its insulted if it doesn't have self esteem? What would happen if sentient robots demanded rights? I want to hear your thoughts on this.

Does a tree scream when you put a chainsaw to it

my phone has rights, the right not to work unless recharged.

Humans and other living beings deserve rights, robots don’t. When robots gain consciousness and on par humans they will earn their rights.

Does an entity need to be human to be protected by law?

computer science professor Joanna Bryson argue that “robots should be slaves.” She says that giving robots rights is dangerous because it puts humans and robots on equal footing, rather than maintaining that robots exist “to extend our own abilities and to address our own goals.”

MRHOLLEN, that is partially my point. At some level we don't quite understand yet, I'm sure they do feel the pain.

If a robot made in our image does feel the pain, is it somehow superior to a tree on looks alone..

How far do we all take morality??

Robots, as long as they don’t feel feelings, shouldn’t have rights- when they think by themselves and feel

they are a new form of intelligent life

It won't matter once they become fully aware they will destroy humans as a better safe than sorry measure... they could destroy us then genetically engineer cyborgs later,,,,

Robots have no need for “ Rights “ they should just be thankful too us humans, for their very existence 😤

are thankful to our earth for our very existence? do we care for other people or our parents for giving us existence? no, we destroy and create in our own image, we do what we wish, with no respect for creators or elders.

According to Solo, they should have rights.

you said "

you contradict yourself there, you said the tree feels pain , then say that they look on alone as if they do not.  we take mortality to the limits of our own beliefs and ideals. some see mortality as preparation for eternity, others see it as the only life we live.

Why not go the whole hog , and give them voting rights ! 🙀

if a robot could decide who should be in power based on the persons decisions and plans, then the robot would be put in power.

any robot smart enough to bring the downfall of humanity would be smart enough to recognize the need for intelligent biological life.

I think you're confused MRHOLLEN. I consider trees a life form period. Perhaps not the best analogy for making a point, but it does help me gauge you..

your correct, I misread what you wrote. i read it as "looks on alone" and not as "on looks alone".
