Veteran British character actor Peter Vaughan has passed away at age 93. He had a nice role in " Remains Of The Day " where he played Anthony Hopkins' father. Vaughan also played Baron Isvolsky ( the Russian foreign minister ) in the lengthy " Fall Of Eagles " dramatic series that was made in the UK back in the 1970s. Only a limited number of the many performances made by Vaughan were seen in North America as he seemed to prefer to work in Europe.

Early today I heard the nice news that Kirk Douglas has just had his 100th birthday ( Happy Birthday Spartacus ! ).

Most fans of " Star Wars " have by now heard the bad news, the Princess is dead. Yes Carrie Fisher has passed away at age 60.

More bad news today as Debbie Reynolds had passed away at age 84 ( just one day after her daughter Carrie Fisher ). The one role that I remember the most with Debbie Reynolds is her part in " The Singing Nun ".

Recently I got the opportunity to get a DVD copy of the film " Last Vegas ". I took a chance on buying this movie as the cast featured: Michael Douglas, Robert DeNiro, Morgan Freeman, Kevin Kline and Mary Steenburgen. It's a cute film based on 4 old guys going to have some fun in " Sin City ", not bad at all.

Some people tell us that we need to invest time in reading books, a good activity for the mind. However as I've gotten older my interest in reading has declined. Recently I came across a DVD of a film entitled " War And Peace " which was of course based on the book by Leo Tolstoy . Perhaps watching the film version of the book is also helpful   lol.

The DVD features the 1956 film version of " War And Peace " with Audrey Hepburn, Henry Fonda, Mel Ferrer, Herbert Lom and John Mills. This is a large scale epic directed by King Vidor and produced by Dino DeLauretis ( the battle scenes alone are quite huge ).

Thanks for the new post.

Recently the subject of Golf came up in one of my other threads and that reminded me of a good Adam Sandler movie. Yes I liked " Happy Gilmore " where Sandler completely destroyed the game of Golf ( I've got find my video of that film, I'd like to watch that one again ).

---   I bought that film years ago on VHS tape and then recently I got a copy of it on DVD. I just thought that was a very funny movie.

---   Ah yes Sandler had a little go-round with the " Price Is Right " guy   lol.                                       PS: They certainly destroyed the game of golf in that film.

Well known British Actor John Hurt has passed away at age 77. Over his career he appeared in many films.

While just visiting over on YouTube I saw a list of the over 150 films that John Hurt was in during a career that approached 55 years in length. Among the films he did were: A Man For All Seasons ( 1966 ), Alien, Elephant Man ( 1980 ), Harry Potter, King Ralph and he also played the evil Emperor Caligula in the mini-series " I Claudius " as well.

not sure if this is true, i can't remember where i read it.

hurt was so impressed with the script and screenplay for syrianna, he just wanted to be a part of it, and lobbied to be in it.

in every movie i saw him in, he seemed to play the character well.

i didn't know he was 77.

Tungsten_DinnerMint

I remember him from I, Claudius and Crime and Punishment, the latter of which I haven't seen for decades.

He was always good.
