Some Favourite Movies

 I love The Manchurian Candidate. Excellent movie.

Well Thanks for the two votes for the " Manchurian Canditate ". In my case having spent a 30 year career on a major Railway up here I'm often drawn to movies with Steam locomotives in them --- All Aboard !!! ( and give em the Highball signal  lol ).  

Just had the chance to see a very well made recent movie ( and Academy Award winner ). I recently got a copy of " The King's Speech " and found it to be a terrific movie. Of course with Canada being a member of the British Commonwealth we have a extra reason to be interested in this film, which I gather did well in general international release.  

Some weeks back I had the chance to obtain the Collectors edition of " The Magnificent Seven " on DVD. Besides having this terrific Western movie on one disc there is a second disc with a lot of good info on the making of the film. I had this movie on a VHS but to upgrade with this Collectors edition is quite nice.    

Thanks for the post Lazaneo87, that is a terrific list of films. I guess that my favourite on your list tho would be " Titanic " in part I guess because I sailed across the Atlantic many years ago on a small Ocean-liner. Mind you there are a couple of films on your list that I have not seen but time may correct that situation  lol.  

Shawshank and Legends of the Fall were two I'd recommend.

 That is an excellent list of movies. A few I haven't seen, but the rest are classics.

As you can see by my avatar, ''The Big Lebowski'' is one of my all time favorite movies. 

The Coen brothers are brilliant i.m.h.o.

Thanks Everyone for all of the lists, some terrific films there. " Legends Of The Fall " is a good movie and I like Anthony Hopkin's work going all the way back to " The Lion In Winter " ( as I mentioned earlier in this thread ). Anthony Hopkins was also in a very good war-movie as well that was set in World War II. " A Bridge Too Far " was a massive undertaking with a terrific Cast but this film didn't seem to get the fame that it deserved.     

As I look thru the recent lists here I see lots of good films: Godfather trilogy, Gladiator, Tombstone, Lord Of The Rings trilogy, Casablanca, It's A Wonderful Life, etc etc, one could go on and on.

I agree with you Outlaw, the Coen Bothers are quite a team. " Fargo " is their first film that I saw and I liked that one. Also I was blown away by their version of " The Ladykillers " with Tom Hanks, a great film.

Thanks for the recent posts Javan64 and AndyClifton. As it turns out I haven't yet seen any of the three movies mentioned in your posts.

Elsewhere in these forums I have a thread going on old Machines. Recently I was reminded of two movies that I loved as a teenager and which could easily fit into either of these two threads. " The Great Race " with Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon & Natalie Wood and " Those Magnificent Men In Their Flying Machines " with Robert Morley ( & also many other greats ) are the movies in question. Both of these films were quite funny and very well made, plus both had lot of terrific old Machines in them as well. As a bit of trivia the late great Benny Hill was also in the second of these movies. He played the Chief of the Fire Department, two good films that I quite enjoyed.      

I've seen both The Great Race and the Flying Machines movies.  I dearly love the theme song from the Flying Machines movie! ... and in the Race movie, didn't Peter Falk play Jack Lemmon's idiot henchman?

Thanks for the reminder Javan64, Peter Falk was indeed Max the helper to Professor Fate ( Jack Lemmon ). When something went wrong with that duo then Jack Lemmon yelled out " MAAAX  You Idiot  !!! ". A cute movie that I enjoyed a lot.     

Recently I recieved a 6-disc Video series entitled " The Road To World War II " from Reader's Digest. This is the re-issue of a excellent series that used to be known by the title of " Between The Wars " covering the time between the Treaty Of Versailles and Pearl Harbour. One can see the disastrous path that led to the tragedy of a second major conflict within 25 years of the end of World War One.  

I'm guessing that Hitler guy had something to do with this (unless of course he was a hoax).

Well one thing that a person could speculate about is that if The Treaty Of Versailles had been a bit more lenient towards the Central Powers then the Weimar Republic in Germany might have had a chance to succeed. After that who knows ? ---
