I'm pretty sure if that happened, something bad would follow
What needs do people have today that are unmet but could be aided by technology?
Talking about needs, what are the basic needs? Water, food, home, etc. While the developed part of humans have access to these, the undeveloped parts face issues. Some things technology could aid us with here is easier mobility, more coordination with the common people, etc. A simple emergency alert app could save lives in case of any emergency in these areas. A quicker form of transportation could save time in case of emergencies, again. But nowadays, technology has been more focused in "wants" rather than "needs", which is a main problem of concern.
Thanks very much. If you're willing, I would appreciate you to continue to share your insight. Would you care to elaborate on the distinction between wants and needs?
Sure. Needs, as the name itself suggests, are the things we need. We cannot live without the needs. Wants, are the things that one can live without, but wishes to possess. For example, a watch isn't necessary, since a person can just look at any clock nearby, making it a "want". In business, economics, etc, these play a very important role.
So you're implying that the benefits of technology should first be applied to meeting basic needs before they're elaborated upon to meet the wants of those who can afford them?
Yes, but that doesn't mean all of technology should be set on needs, wants are important too, just that needs should be prioritized, or at the least, separate funds and programmes should be allocated to it.
Does that mean, just to question you, that students should be allowed to study whatever topics they choose? Do you think education should be centered more around the student and their abilities?
Do you think artificial intelligence teachers should replace human teachers in public schools, in the near or distant future? There are indications that AI can give more attention to each student and understand the student's aptitudes and abilities better than a human teacher can. AI can predict the student's behavior better and make the studies more enjoyable. AI can provide incentives for students to learn more quickly. In short, AI likely has more power to shape our minds than we have at this point. What role do you think it will take in education, and should it be embraced, or avoided?
