Cool, StakeOut, thanks.
"he annual rainfall average is 1.200 mm mainly from the SW monsoon (June to Sept.) and NE monsoon (Nov to Dec) with a dry period of approx 6 months."
Must mean 1,200 mm?
"The average maximum temperature is 37.2° C (89.96°F), average minimum 20° C (68 °F)."
Wow, that's hot! Must make for good growing though.
I've always wanted to visit India but probably will not have the time or money to now. You never know though.

I thought you were referring to Left 4 Dead.
BTW: World War Z is going into pre-production. Expect a movie around 2010, according to scuttlebutt.
As for Narz original comment - I just don't know. Somedays, I feel very optimistic about the future of man. Even though we all like to complain about the world, the truth is that, over all, mankind is improving his lot like never before. People are living longer, education levels are up, charitable organizations & NGOs span the globe helping the poor, technology is making life easier. Really, some of the complaints come across as little more than the whining of spoilt kids.
But then there are days that I do fear for the world. Narz's question sort of hints at what bugs me - the disconnect between what really matters and what is merely trendy. It seems like big parts of the world are fiddling while Rome burns. Little problems are allowed to become big problems (both philosophical and material) because we are all too busy playing with our Xboxes or watching the TV and don't want to make some tough choices or take a definitive stand on certain issues.
I'll cut it off there because I don't want this to go political / religious. Which ever way the world is ultimately going, one thing gives me solace: individuals ultimately move the world. As long as people are strong and stand for "sweetness and light", no matter what happens, there will always be hope for mankind.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to get back to playing Fallout 3.
Nice post Rooks. I'm a bit of a hopeless romantic/optimist by nature as well, my main concern is that we're so hyper-confident in our ability to solve the problem at the last minute (like James Bond) that only a very small segment of the population is worrying about it now. For example, huge drops in oil prices are hurting alternative energy because our financial system is geared to think mainly about the next quarter. We talk about systems stabilizing & cycles of bear & bull but forget we're not seeing the big picture. The last 200 years of expodential growth (in population & energy & world economies - all tied together) has been an aberration from the cycle, there's nothing stable or normal about it.
No animal has evolved to be geared towards thinking about the long-term. Humans can contemplate their own mortality & those who follow them but day-to-day 99.9% of the time, we're not. Our lifestyles do not usually reflect this & the culture as a whole (with it's backbone which is the market dominated mostly by big-biz backed by big-gov) don't encourage us (except very superficially) to think about this. Trash cans encourage us to not litter to "save the planet" as if this even makes sense.
Anyway, maybe I should cease & desist to keep this forum light. We do need lightness lest we get too overwhelmed by the "heavy" issues & I find chess a good diversion that challenges me while it distracts me. :) I can't see how this thread won't get politcal (or even religious
) if it stays alive. But I think we can stay off that path if we try. Honestly, I think it's a good forum rule. Most of us hold little individual sway in politics & if God exists he's bigger & wiser than all our puny opinions so it's best to focus on what we, as individuals can do.

Anyone else think much about the long term future of humanity & how we will need to adapt to survive in the decades/centuries ahead?
My personally hope for humanity is that we can maintain the best of modern civilization (technology such as this, the Internet) while eliminating consumerism, the alienation people feel free their communities (and those of others) & the disconnection from nature/"God/the universe so many feel.
I think human connection & wanting to be truly, deeply productive (not just pushing a product, driving to & from an office) is such a primal need, one that for many is unfulfilled (if you're one of the wise &/or lucky few who's found your calling please speak up, actually I'll make another thread on this).
Anyway, how do you see civilization progressing? What do you see for the future of mankind? If you like you can include both a uptopian & dystopian vision.
