At a minimum this one will at least be civil.

My area recently got a tornado warning, despite the wind being dead. No idea though.

"SEEK IMMEDIATE SHELTER."

Like, calm down, lemme finish makin' my food...

Even player, Fester, Dio, and Elroch are all welcome, as long as they keep it about the topic and not the posters.

Enjoy the day and don’t worry about the hype. We have sunny 77 degree weather today. It is perfect.

Topic of the day: Why are wind turbines sold to the public with a claimed 25 year lifespan, when the great majority are abandoned at 15 years?

Old people talk about the weather. Do young people nowadays talk about the weather?

I usually do for about 5 minutes over lunch or dinner, and how it'll affect my/our plans. I don't often make a huge deal of it, though.

Sounds about normal to me 🙏

Well up until mid afternoon today we had a steady rain going over here, so there's my contribution:]

Firstly, wind turbines are not sold to the public. Electricity is sold to the public.

Secondly, the commercially savvy energy developers who do buy them, and the hard-nosed investors who invest in such projects understand that they have a design life of 20-25 years and an actual average life of 25-30 years, with a perfectly acceptable requirement for maintenance and replacement of some of the components, all of which is taken into account in the economics.

Of course, as time goes by there is the welcome fact that the economics improve at a remarkable rate. The technology is still relatively young and there are a lot of very smart people motivated to find ways to build better performing and better value wind turbines.

It's not that all the people who invest in wind energy are splashing their money around in a stupid way and need advice from you.

I will say that PV is to some extent a threat to wind power. PV technology has advanced even faster than wind, and there are exciting new developments that suggest that this process is not over. PV electricity is expected to cost around $25/MWh by 2030, even lower than today.

"This is a place to discuss the weather, not the participants." Pull your punches, Elroch.

Elroch

Do we have some investors in wind energy here? There was no comment on anyone else.

The main thing that @ExploringWA said was false. That is a statement about a statement, not about a person (I didn't even explicitly say that in the previous post).

I understand, but the presentation could've been rethought, and the phrasing a lot less negative. It has a strong disdainful tone, and could be phrased better. Still, I'll withdraw, as I do realize I wasn't looking from an objective standpoint, and that's on me.

Elroch has been blocked for his passive aggressive insult. Notice how a positive thread turned ugly the minute he stepped in.
