I've had an idea...What if only people after the age of fifty would be allowed to have cars, the bus, train, plane tickets would be made much cheaper, and then there is always bicycles, horses and legs.

There would be much less air pollution, and accidents.

What do you think of this idea?

Its too late IlMave, the car industry would never allow it. We already have the solution, its the train. We could make every highway a trainway and rise the frequency to every 10 minutes. It would be much cheaper, faster, cleaner. The only chance would be a government that realizes this and makes a law that comes into force after 20 years or so, so that the car industry may adapt. But I wouldnt hold my breath

People under 50, would not agree.

Some wouldn't, some would. If all the changes which I wrote about above, start working, their loss won't be so big, and one day they'll be fifty. Remember that a fifty year old can also take other people as passengers. But cabs would have to be banned....

And stagecoaches could be used...

You are right, my friend. The idea is just an idea, it doesn't matter if it's good or bad, cause many powerful, rich people would lose on it. Earth, and common people would profit, but the 1% that, has power, would say no, and that would be it.

Avatar of Hummingbird313

Even the rich would profit from such a society but not all and thats the problem. More foresight in people would be a blessing for mother earth and thats where chess starts to come inwink.png at least a few moves or years would be great, I will work on it like you!

Old people can be worse drivers than teenagers. Let's cap the limit at 60. There I threw the age card right back atcha.
Avatar of IlMave

Old people can be worse than young, but in most cases, The young ones like to speed up a litlle more.

However, that is off no matter, because by the fifty or sixty years rule, I wanted to ensure that older people, not top fit, can get around totally easy. For if the world looked like my idea says, there would be many people walking, or riding bicycles.

Fact of the matter is that agism is as ignorant as racism. All age groups contain idiots.

Public transportation combined with walking and biking is simply not a viable option for people who don't live in cities.

Mark, that much more buses would be riding everywhere.

Thats because there is this crazy idea that everybody has to own their means of transportation. Highways have to be rebuilt and repaired all the time while buying new and badly recycling old cars is a huge waste of resources. If the government would build railways like it does with highways nobody would drive a car. Today we have highspeed trains bod nobody is buying them. Its just the old idea to have to own a car as the fastest mean of transportatio and the interest of the industry that is slowing us.

I don't think you understand what it's like to live in a spread out suburban area in the states. Buses wouldn't cut it. There are too many destinations that are too far apart to walk between, meaning the buses would have to stop so many times that it would take an extremely long time to get anywhere.
Avatar of OneThousandEightHundred18
Most cities in the us have subway systems which are very helpful, as well as buses. Trains exist too for longer routes.

It's just not practical when you're in an area where there is a single building about every 1/4 mile. Or when you have to travel, idk, like a 45 minute car ride to somewhere slightly obscure and not heavily populated, like to someone's house. Figuring out how to connect your bus rides to get there would be a nightmare.

I understand but its the old way of living far away and to still be able to commute into the city. In a few years 80% of people will live in cities and we will have to adapt how we keep up infrastructure in suburban parts of the country. I think for the few people in rural areas there will be some sort of transportation but with self driving cars there will be fleets of taxis to bring you everywhere with clean energy. By that time no one will need a car for himself when he can order one for little money. At least thats how I imagine the futurehappy.png and I have Elo 1100, so you can believe megrin.png
