Dragonwarrior, that is nearly correct, but barely misses it. Do you want a hint?

Not right now

Sure

RealTactics960, almost right, but I can’t give it to you because it’s technically incorrect

They would see a portion of the circle, the same way we can only see part of a sphere

Is that a hint

Think about how we, as humans in a 3-D world, see the world around us. We see it as a 2-D image. In a 2-D world, the inhabitants would see a one-dimensional image, an infinitesimally small cross-section, since there is no height. Their vision would have no second dimension, nor would it have height, since height does not exist in Flatland.

Ohhhhh, yeah

So, using that hint, what would happen if a sphere were to pass through this 2-D plane that the inhabitants could see?
Avatar of RealTactics960

They’d see a line that grows and then shrinks

Avatar of GraysonKellogg
You’re right! Congratulations! Flatland was posed in 1884 by Edwin Abbott, as a glimpse into the world of lower dimensions.

i have a riddle!

There is a boat with a ladder attached to it, the ladder is eight feet tall. If the water rises four feet how much of the ladder will be on top of the water?

sry had to find and copy

I know the answer:
The circle would grow up till a point then it would shrink.
The explanation:
Imagine a sphere chops into super small layers then laid out in order as they were cut. The first slice would be very small, then the slice in the middle would be the biggest, then the last would be super small again.
Deeper dive into the thought experiment:
Now imagine that we would see a shape pasted from the 4th dimension into the 3rd.
What would that look like?

Sorry I was a bit late, I was typing it when someone answered

it depends is it 6 guys working together on one hole or is it 6 guys digging independently

To answer RealTactics960’s riddle you would have to know the height of the boat and how much of the boat is under water

All of it, because the boat will also rise 4 feet up with the water
