It wasn't written by John McCartney -- it was written by Ringo Harrison.
Penny Lane was the sister of Lois. Tragically, Penny was waiting for a man in his underwear and a cape to sweep her away, but she was admitted to the hospital for severe depression when he turned out to be just Paul McCartney.

Maybe this will show you what you don't know: "Penny Lane" is a song by the Beatles.[6] It was written primarily by Paul McCartney but credited to the Lennon–McCartney songwriting partnership. The lyrics refer to a real street in Liverpool, England.

Yes, it was a joke.
You wrote John McCartney, not Lennon-McCartney -- big difference -- one reads like an individual, proper name and the other reads like the last names of two people.
So i responded with a quip about it being written by Ringo Harrison (instead of Starr-Harrison).
Get it?
Good.

Who is Penny Lane? A girl I fell in love with when I was a little laddy bucko. However What is Penny Lane?
