I love the innocence of Spongebob and Patrick. Its refreshing in a day and age where even cartoon characters act like deadly-serious adults all the time.

As for Spongebob... Whether or not it is an anime - which, by the way, it is definitely not - it's a horrible show! It teaches people that if you work hard at achieving your goals, like Squidward does, you'll be boring and bad at whatever it is you do, and that if you fool around the whole time like Spongebob, everything will always be going your way. And that you should aspire to become a fry-cook. And don't even get me started on Patrick...
I tend to agree with McBuff on Spongebob. If it wasn't as widespread as it is, I wouldn't really care. But we're talking about one of the most popular kids' shows out there and it's *encouraging* stupidity! Both of the main characters are dumber than bricks and everyone thinks it's hilarious! Why can't we have some *intelligent* role models for our children, so they'll actually want to excel in school instead of aspiring to fail?
Okay, tyrade over. As for my favorite anime character, that's a toughy. I've always liked Vash and Ryoga
Honestly I was expecting someone to say shikamaru from naruto because of his love for strategy games such as Shogi and go. I admire his ability to think so far ahead and apply this ability to his ninjutsu. Shikamaru however is only one example of this as most of the jounin in the series have an extraordinary ability to predict enemy attack, feign attack, and apply tactics and strategy to battles. My personal favorite is Kakashi, so aloof yet painfully capable. He is a character I have alot of admiration for due to his deductive abilities and strategic genius.
Concerning the "Sponge Bob" debate... I feel dumb for participating however I feel that the character has some value. I do not like the show and haven't made it successfully through an entire episode due to my brain cells commiting seppuku for watching. Life is stressfull and the existance of a character like Sponge Bob may provide a much needed break to the minds of children and adults alike. The frontal lobe has a chance to switch off and take a break. Also I wonder if there is a toaist subtext to the show, following the path of least resistance and such.
