What is your purpose in life?

This sounds strange, but it is literally the most important question in your life.

As always, please keep it nice.
I am generally interested in discussing this, and not in name-calling or shaming, or forcing my opinions on others.

Who's good do you live for?

random, but semi-related question, what is your perspective on pacifism?

and why?

Mi5ail

I am not quite sure what I believe about that, and I am interested in hearing arguments in favour of both sides.

It seem strange that doing nothing is the best for human and planet. But that is needed further explanation.

Well to begin with, the question assumes a lot. If you're interested in thinking about this topic you could start with "does life have a purpose"

Think of all the great people who came before you, some of them thousands of years ago. Some of them contributed medicine, or art, or government, people who fought and died for something... people whose names no one but historians remember, and even then are eventually forgotten. People whose accomplishments would have been made by some other human anyway had they never been born. People whose languages, religion, and society are all dead and forgotten, just as one day your language, religion, and society will be.

Just going by facts, asking "what is my purpose in life" is an awfully vain question. You're one out of billions of people on a tiny rock orbiting a sun in an endless void.

Most likely your consciousness, thoughts, feelings, memory... all advanced brain functions... your personality, they're merely an artifact of evolution. A curiosity that happened to make your ancestor's DNA more likely to survive, so now you've inherited it, your body just a temporary vehicle as it perpetuates itself into the future.

These thoughts don't make people feel warm and fuzzy, but truth isn't based on what feels good.

my purpose is dating models.

Your purpose in life, not what man's purpose in life is! Right. So the answer would come up differently, man kind's purpose , and your purpose!

Just like Amandeep want's to date models, maybe have a good time while you are a live, and that can be very different from person to person. So are you looking for a consensus what most people want to get out of life while hanging around here on earth??

 So.....this is a religious thread.

@llamonade:

I know your point of view. I sometimes start thinking like that myself.
But I disagree with the implication that all people who don't look at things the way you do are just wanting a warm fuzzy feeling. Many do, but many don't.
And actually, what I believe about my purpose leaves me with responsibility, which is not easy.
Your description is actually a lot easier to believe, because it requires no commitment, and no effort on your part.

This is all my humble opinion, so take it as such

No. It isn't

I allude to religion often, because it is hard to talk about my life without doing so, but this is not a religious thread.

There is no purpose! As far as we've been able to deduce, it's all just random accident. Just because you understand a meaning for the word 'purpose', doesn't mean that any purpose actually exists or was intended for you. We don't know what any of this is about, but we can be fairly certain that it has nothing to do with any kind of greater meaning or significance for any of us. By pure chance and accident, we ended up being intelligent apes who conceived of words such as "purpose". This in no way means that any such purpose exists. My advice: Make the most your existence; there is no point in wondering about anything else. Respect the (man-made) Law, since that is in all likelihood, it will be the most you will be adjudged by.
