Also Gregg is actually right. It was British Slangterm but Brits stopped using it in the 80s but Americans kept it to avoid confusing with football. Football is actually called football because A. The game used to be similar to soccer and B. The ball is one foot long. Also it would make sense for soccer to be called feetball. Unless you’re a peg leg of course

I tried to enjoy football (soccer) once. It was a terrible waste of ten minutes. Now I enjoy football (football) especially D-1, not professional.
