A friend of mine used to quote his father and declare "Brahms is King!" They were big into classical music. When asked about other composers I like such as Strauss II, Bach, Wagner etc. then he would say, "oh yeah, those guys are okay too."

Beethoven is my personal favorite, I love the emotions of his songs and the strength of them.

If I had to choose, I'd probably say Chopin. But I'd rather not.

Btw, Prokofiev was pretty decent at chess (for a composer), and apparently played a draw against Capablanca in a simul.
