Connor McDavid is a fantastic player. Oilers have a good shot at winning the cup this year I reckon.

Hat trick hero at it again. Blackhawks 10 Penguins 1 wtf?!

Thanks for the post Strangemover. Yes Edmonton got very lucky when they were able to draft McDavid, probably the best player since Gretzky. One debate that has been going on for a while in the NHL is the need to increase scoring to keep the fans interested. Perhaps this is the year that the scoring goes up to a higher level.

The kid scores goals. I wasnt aware goalscoring was a concern to be honest. Ive watched UK hockey since the early 90s and in my eyes as the number of goals decreased the standard improved. In the early days scores of 14-3 or 21-5 for eg were not uncommon. Years later I watched a game finish 0-0 and it was much better viewing. I'm interested to see how Las Vegas perform. I watched a season preview recently and one of the guys was saying he thought ideally they would be competetive but finish with the 2nd or 3rd worst record to ensure a quality draft pick and build the squad. I understand the reasoning but it seems an odd way to approach things. Such is the draft system i guess. They looked good in pre season anyway.

I grew up in Los Angeles where it doesn't freeze in the winter, so I'm not much into hockey, but I admire the athleticism of your players, the way they can trade punches while maintaining their balance on ice skates.  Why doesn't the NHL start a sister organization, the Mixed Martial Arts Hockey Association, where there are no goals, just two warriors going at it in an octagon covered with ice?

My favorite sports team is the Lakers.  I am a charter LAL fan, since they moved to LA from Minneapolis when I was five, and they've been pretty good over the years.

Well the news from the world of Baseball is not good. The Cubs lost again and so they will not be in the World Series this year. Mind you it is only 4 and 1/2 months to spring training, not bad   lol.

yes, unfortunate for us cub fans, the dodgers are a really good team, but, in game 3, the cubs looked like little leaguers.

The World Series is going to be the Houston Astros vs the LA Dodgers. They will play Game 1 on Tuesday in Houston.

Avatar of badenwurtca

After the first 2 games are now done both teams have now won a game ( GO Astros GO !!! ).

Avatar of badenwurtca

Well it has come down to this last game. Both teams have now won 3 games each and we are ready for game 7 of the World Series ( GO Astros GO !!! ).

Avatar of badenwurtca

And the Astros win 5 to 1 to get their World Series rings, not bad at all.

good for houston.

Thanks for the post AlCervik. I think that the outcome was quite fair. After all the Dodgers blocked the Cubs from getting back to the World Series and then the Astros grabbed the Championship instead   lol.

Sad news today. Roy ( Doc ) Halladay has been killed in an accident with his single-engine aircraft. During his career he won 2 Cy Young awards ( he was only 40 yrs old ).

I heard a name the other day that took me way back to the 1960's. Johnny Bower has passed away at age 93. Bower was the Toronto Maple Leaf goalie for 4 Stanley Cups, not a bad career.

Avatar of AlCzervik

not a bad life, either, making it to 93.

Thanks for the post. Yes he went into scouting for new players after his playing time was done.
