The Civet coffee, also called as Luwark coffee, is expensive because of uncommon method of producing such a coffee. It is produced from the coffee beans digested by civet cat. The feces of this cat are collected, processed and sold.

The Kopi Luwak is a hideous trade that should be abolished. What started as a novelty by Tony Wild, quickly became an industry that utilized caged Civets barely kept alive to eat coffee cherries and poop. The coffee can sell for 100-500 per pound (US) making it the most expensive coffee. “Fine” restaurants sell it at $50 per cup. Tony Wild started a campaign titled “Cut the Crap” (no not the sixth and final Clash album) to bring awareness to immoral trade.

I'll bet nobody would pay $1300 a kilogram for ME to crap in their coffee!

Hardly seems fair.

Indeed. Another ridiculous practice involves the bats. The bats eat the ripest coffee berries and their poop is harvested for the seeds that are then made into “coffee.” Makes you wonder if this where the phrase “Batshi_ Crazy” originated!
