kay is one of the reasons good people like trysts, goldendog, corri, thegrobe, etc. decide to leave.
Why Trysts has left us ( Part III ).
Hear Hear ALCzervik!!! At last there is one person who sees Kaynight for what they really are!In some ways your criticism is way too muted. On several occasions I have expressed it a tad more robustly. You've made my day
How I met that dame, Trysts.
(Who cares, right? But it gives me an excuse to post pictures. :)
It was a dark and stormy night
back in the day
when I frequented the forum that is Open Discussion
afore I was kicked out for implying someone might be stupid for saying Obama never tells a lie, which reminds me of an old joke, How can you tell if a politician is lying? When his lips are moving.
There I was, debating
the fact that two airplanes could not instantly drop three buildings into their own footprint.
Then out of no where, Trysts jumped into the fracas with even more persuasive arguments.
Alas, later the subject of UFOs came up.
Knowing the inevitable split this might cause, I mentioned my idea of possible militaristc or spiritual originations for them.
I was blocked for a season, but eventually a thaw set in,
and she unblocked me.
She always took a lot of flak in the forums when she spoke ill of the U.S. but her criticisms were well founded.
I doubt her vacation from this site will be permanent. :)
I never knew Trysts to speak ill of the US & I never seen her take a beating in the forums either over political issues.
What I witnessed was a strong reaction by some who are not as intelligent as Trysts & have little capacity to discriminate between govt propaganda & what might actually be really going on.
Just because someone has the insight to question a countries policies or govt, it does not mean they are against the whole country or its people.
It takes courage to question the status quo & move away from a herd mentality which has little interest in differentiating between govt propaganda & take everything that they see on the news as being the truth.
What I witnessed with Trysts, was always a well presented argument, paticularly around international affairs. And then the emotional reaction from many flag waving, patriotic types, firing on only 2 brain cells getting all emotional, with little challenge to her initial argument.
Trysts is a smart lady, smart people tend to have the capacity to question things, make people think, challenge the acceptable norms/conditioning. And are interested in looking beyond the conventional bullshit spewed out by the western media - of how things really are.
We often fall into the trap of thinking our countries are immune to propaganda in the west, Trysts could see beyond all of that.
So, yes of course she upset people. But in a very good way in my opinion. People seldom like their illusions to be questioned.
Trysts has a lovely natural capacity to teach - but only if you listened carefully to what she had to say.
Some people on here could see where Trysts was coming from & respect her for both her courage & intelligence.
Lets face the facts, the forums here are nothing short of a sanitised Disney world. To demonstrate how absurd it has become, the present US ladies chess champion Nazi Paikidze expressed her opinion concerning the forthcoming World championships in Iran and we are not at liberty to discuss it because of some irrational bias against religious and political discussion. Can anyone tell us how its possible to discuss the forced wearing of what is deemed by many as a religious garb without making references to religion or politics? Post your fluffy kittens but don't let reality anywhere near here!
The absurdity Robbie is how do you have a discussion of history without including politics or the influence of religion?
Is it at all possible?
How do you talk of current affairs without including both?
Maybe the name Nazi flags up a problem here. Just saying.
Maybe you need to understand that its a failry common Georgian name. I am sure a good ol fashioned slap on the back of the heid would do the trick!

Excactly, its a cookie cutter echo chamber room full of mirrors, reality has no place here.
The hijab discussion was actually going on in an orderly fashion with little talk of politics or religeon. (Well, it was discussed but not in a inciteful manner. Like it is pointed out, politics and religeon are part of many sociological issues. Mod's will let discussion take place as long as it is civil, I observe anyway)
But, unfortunately as what happens with many threads, a few members hijack a thread, start in with the same ole bs, get their kicks from shouting insults and being obnoxious.
Presto .. topic locked
When an OP starts a thread, if they are interested and want the discussion to progress, they need to block abusive members. I see a prevailing attitude though. That of "oh.. can't to that, that's censorship, violating people's rights to say whatever they want".
Which is horse ****

Can you tell me why an entire thread needs to be locked down and the responsible contributors punished because of the irresponsible actions of a few individuals? because try as i might I have been unable to find any rational explanation myself.
I edited my post and answered that .
Basically the OP needs to block abusers. It's not for staff to go about doing our job.
You can always start a new thread on the topic and be the OP if you're that interested. I see this happens quite a bit.
If someone started a small business, say a restaurant, and a small group of people started frequenting your establishment and were creating trouble. What would your response be?
Well, most of the time the issues are minor and can be dealt with by the owner, talking with the folks. If they persist, they are asked to leave. When the issue escalates or becomes threatening, then the authorities are called to be involved.

yes but that does not answer the question though, why the community should be punished for the irresponsible actions of one or two people? It makes no sense to me.
If you take what happened in the thread, you asked the person to remove the image, I asked them and the next thing we know some heavy handed moderator comes in without consulting anyone like a tin hat forum dictator and locks the thread down citing religious, political discussion before we can do anything about it. Surely people should be given a warning and only when they refuse to comply then punished?
I asked the moderator the same questions that I am asking you here.
1.How is it possible to have a discussion on the issue without making religious and political references.
2.Why should the entire community be punished for the actions of one or two individuals.
the answer I received was, 'feel free to complain to staff'. I pointed out that even the gods cannot prevail against stupidity.

I have no stomach for it, I was left completely demoralised by the experience, its no use contributing anything with substance to these forums, this is no place for reality, Disney castles and fluffy kittens with machine guns, yeehah! Reality, make sure it doesn't set in!

Yes an excellent analogy! Lets consider what happened. One small group of trouble makers was creating trouble. We asked them to tone it down, otherwise they will be asked to leave, before we could remove them a SWAT team burst into the restaurant, put padlocks on the doors and a sign outside, Closed down! Out of business! complain to the city authorities if you are unsatisfied.
Is this not an accurate and true summation of what transpired?
Ah. I recall you were the OP. The lock did happen rather quick with no warning. However, few were quickly getting out of control. The member posting the pic has a prior history. I recall you warned him. Next time (since we all know this kind of topic can be volitile) a warning sign might be posted, as Elroch does with his threads. The Mod might have let the thread continue if he saw you were proactive from the beginning. It's not a perfect world nor an ideal chess.com. No doubt some mod's may get trigger happy, have their rash moment. Learn the ins and outs to get what you want.
One day Al will get round to washing his potty mouth out with soap.
pictures of squirrels somehow makes me have a potty mouth?
you're a narcissist. get. over. yourself.
you are not the most interesting person in the world, even with all your effort to convince us here on cc. you consistently respond to posts that cite you, in any way, as a badge of honor. stating that others are "following" you.
regarding me being a "potty mouth", allow me to respond to you directly without language you consider vulgar.
kaynight's posts are dung. lacking substance or humor, kay carries on with a high opinion of self, seeking attention only. responding to posts here on cc in short sentences that (s)he thinks will convey a witty message. of all kaynight's posts, has anyone ever seen one that is informative?
even if the goal is to be the court jester, kay fails.
