I agree, threads are being locked right and left. A type of censorship that is not good.

My suggestion is to mute the offenders, not lock the thread. The 1st responsibility rests with the OP to block offenders. 3 problems here. The OP may be off line for a period of time. The OP may have started a topic only to create an atmosphere for having insulting behavior. Too many posts for mod's to watch.

Censorship is necessary to maintain civility. It is a fine line when the mods, often with little experience in public management, get trigger happy, seeing the only solution is locking a thread.

Threads have been underway and for the most part civil discussion has taken place. A very few, often in pairs hijack the topic, posting inappropriate pics and shouting insults.

The hammer gets dropped. Thread locked. Surely there is an adult solution to better serve members.

Thinking about it, these abusers know full well when their account gets deleted, they can simply create a new one.

This underlying situation is at the root of the problem .

MD... you've made you point, on numerous occasions.  And, you've been allowed to do so.  Maybe you should think yourself lucky that endless moaning isn't in the toc.

This is a chess site with the added bonus of forums, it's not the United Nations.  There's also no IQ minimum allowance on membership.  It is what it is and on the whole, it ain't bad.  Suck it up man.

Going out on a limb and possubly incurring the wrath of chess.com I view a possibility. Chess.com is rapidly expanding. 5000 new members daily (how many are old accounts? ) Membership numbers generate advertising $. Maybe deleting accounts works to their favor, as the over all total just keeps going up, never taking into account how many of the new members were old accounts. Members being abusive in the threads therefor take low priority. Just a thought.

Babytigrrr-this thread is for you to respond.I used to enjoy your two threads "Word games (3) and (4).As far as I am aware I always participated in a courteous manner.A while back without any good reason nor explanation from you(The OP) I found myself to be blocked.Maybe you could explain the reason to me.I await with great interest

If you were to actually take the time to 'read" my posts, you'd find I'm actually in agreement that mod's are trigger happy in locking threads. I see both sides of the problem. Am in more agreement with you than you realize.

@Witmag... I have seen your many posts and know full well your attitude. You have not appeared in any of my threads so I have no reason to block you. Rest assured, when you do, it will happen and no explanation will be given.

Fair point.  I usually block if I see people being rude.  I can't remember now what it was I saw you do but I don't usually block lightly... I forgot you were the op here, otherwise I would not have posted.  I have unblocked you.

No disrespect to you Babytigrrr but unless you can point to the evidence I am not guilty in this instance.I'll admit I'm often very robust but temper my robustness with decorum as far as possible.Please always feel free to call me to account if I  should ever "default"
