Well the point of fidget toys is so people will have a specific thing to do with their hands. It’s supposed to help people focus.

As a special needs teacher, I find that they do more harm than good. True, they’re not beating up each other cuz their hands are busy, but they get VERY little class work done.  Kids expect EVERYTHING to be FUN and that’s NOT preparing them for the real 🌎 who will not care if they’re having fun or not.

Some fidgets do help. As someone who has ADHD, it works wonders. In elementary school my teachers would give me a fidget but only if I payed attention. I mostly used a squishy or putty. I would also tap my finger and bounce my legs if I didn’t have a fidget. However slime is more of a distraction at times and fidget spinners are a huge no. You are more focused on spinning it than on what’s happening in class. I have always wanted a fidget cube but it’s mostly pressing buttons and switches which can be distracting to classmates so I never got one. And with the fidget tubes kids use it’s too loud and a distraction. Fidgets are meant for those who need it, not for every kid who is antsy tbh. It isn’t fair to kids or me at least with my ADHD to have the fidgets banned because others misuse them. It’s hard to pay attention and sit still all day :/

Children are more than capable of fidgeting with their own hands while working on something ; they don't need a fancy toy. Like most non-essential consumer goods, it's all just a marketing scheme.

Why not? Just a little fidget toy when a kid is having a hard time? Also I know this is irrelevant but somethings no matter how strange are worth more than gold to people

I used to fidget by tapping my fingers or a pencil but I was told to stop since I was distracting my classmates. It works but sometimes it’s hard to sit with only being able to tap your foot. There are also rubber band type fidgets that can be put on a chair or desk so you can kick your feet without bothering anyone else. Honestly, that got me through a few years but I haven’t been able to use any since.

@MrOOFChess, I am sure that fidget toys do help some children focus, but seeing how popular they are at present, I don't think it's realistic to say that every kid with one of these toys really needs it. Especially considering that it's a trend which has only been popularized in the most recent few years. Playing around with a toy when you don't need to can only have adverse effects.

I agree with that wholeheartedly. There are plenty of kids who could use fidgets to help them but lately it has been so popular that the fidgets have become more toys than helpful tools to help kids focus.

Nunchakus make great fidget toys. Especially the glow kind. Kind of hard on the inside of your elbow when you’re learning though.
