Hello there!

I'm Josh and I just became premium.  I gotta say, this is the best chess site I've used so far.  I used to play on gameknot.com a few years ago, but eh...I stopped after a few months, it didn't seem to fit me.  The premium stuff on this site is much more and a lot better than what gameknot had to offer.  I used to play chess a lot back in high school back in the mid 90s when I was around 14 - 15 at the time. Yada Yada Yada, fast forward to now, but Chess mentor I love it, especially brushing up on my skills.  (Although I admit I made a few rookie mistakes but also I shouldn't be doing this when I'm tired and on the verge of passing out on the keyboard  Embarassed.)  But nevertheless, I look forward to enjoy my time here, making new friends to play with and chat with about chess and review with, but most of all, to have fun and to get better at it as well.  I look forward to it!

Good for you, Josh; the site needs Premium Members, as it obviously costs a lot to provide the many features Chess.com has available.

Welcome aboard mate.   Chess Mentor is a wonderful and educational way to productively pass some time.  As you have found out it can become a little addictive, but as addictions go chess is one of the least harmful.  If you haven't checked out the videos may I recommend IM Danny Rensch's live sessions series.  Immensely entertaining and educational.  He gives a mini lesson on whatever opening is used trotting out the main goals of each and the numerous strategies available.  Really good stuff (if slightly overcaffeinated at times).  Check it out and best of luck to you.

I think the best thing is Chess.com TV, where you can interact directly with masters.

Welcome! I've been a member for about 8-9 months now and am enjoying the games as well as the resources (tactics trainer and videos, mainly, with a little chess mentor thrown in for good measure). And lots of luck with that "getting better" thing - easier said than done, I should know!

Welcome! I've been a Premium Member for almost 2 years and still have not really made much use of the facilities available to us! Smile Although I intend to in the near future.

One thing I would recommend is having a look at the study plans (assuming they are not massively below your level Wink):

http://www.chess.com/article/view/study-plan-directory

Currently they have Beginner (Rating <1399) and Intermediate (Rating 1400-1799) plans. Advanced plans are being worked on.
