I remember creating a chesskid account a few years ago and just getting demolished in every game
Minimum Age for chess.com

I don't get people's problems with their children going on this site. I have been on chess.com since 2016 or 2017. I'm now 16 and everyone I have come in contact with or played a game with has been respectful and nice. If you're iffy about it, just monitor them but honestly, there's nothing to really be worried about
Jenessa I wouldn't have a problem with my kids playing here if they became good enough. Duolingo now that's another matter entirely. It really depends on the site.

@Sikander2020 I understand where you are coming from but I feel like most peoples problems are how the kids are being treated and if it's appropriate
I am no expert but isn't chess like mathematics. There's a prize for mathematics since Nobel didn't offer one youngest age is 12 by 30 mathematicians like lyric poets are burnt out and good mainly only for teaching. They say it's because in some ways the discipline requires little emotional maturity and obsession helps with those who have the basic talent. I don't get why chess would be inappropriate for the very young. At 2 they learn basic tactile skills, picking up and putting pieces centred on squares in a board. Maybe have a little fun. And do you remember the person who first taught you the basic rules of chess. I remember my teach fondly. I hope they will remember me that way also. There appears to be a sort of free floating panic about protection of children in general. It's well meaning but perhaps displaced when it comes to sites that specialise in chess (I wonder if mathematics sites have a similar problem)

The internet does more harm than good, regardless of age. The kids would be much better off playing together in person. Instead of staring a a digital device alone for hours. I see too many people who are addicted to their digital screens (and becoming intellectually passive and nonsocial in the process). Simple eye contact is becoming more rare. This makes me fear for the future of humanity.
Iron Toad looks like you feel the plague is under control again in the USA. They said that in India a few months back. No schools or playgroups are open. And the bigger cities and several states are under severe lockdown again. And they are talking about how to prepare for the third wave here now. Sure I'll be teaching my kids face to face with Staunton chess pieces and maybe even eventually with actual chess clocks. But I wonder whether I am a dinosaur. Viruses were always one of the favourites for surviving the next ELE. They have no DNA just RNA and seem to adapt better than other life forms. But yeah for now I am working with subscription books and activities because the theory as you say is normative brain development cannot occur with purely onscreen interactions especially for the very young. I note some of the neighbours are gathering of an evening on the terrace of the building to shoot the breeze without masks might not be that dangerous in the open air. And maybe in America now kids are all back to playing baseball and sleepovers with apple pie. But the rest of the world remains in a deepening crisis. We don't got no vaccines here among other problems.

The pandemic restrictions have caused much collateral damage. Whether it was fully justified is a matter of debate (to put it mildly). The state of Florida has eased restrictions faster than most states, and yet we have a per capita infection rate lower than in California and New York. And our economy is healthier too. Food for thought. In any case, for the sake of the younger members of our societies, we must begin making eye contact again, and sharing social activities again in person, or risk their long-term psychological, educational, and economic health. Of course we must protect the elderly and other vulnerable groups from covid exposure. But let's not sacrifice our children's well being. Children barely contribute to the spread of covid. Enough of this over-reaction and virtue signaling. Let kids be kids again. Ask the CDC, follow the science.
Iron Toad these are hopefully positive constructive discussions to be had in the free world. I can't see any of that happening in India for the foreseeable. I don't even think Indians like kids all that much. But yes if its following the science and let's call economics a science for the sake of this argument too. Then maybe the old and those with preexisting conditions should be isolated. The young allowed to continue to work and kids be allowed to congregate the freest. Unit the virus evolves. But there's a competition going on to see which country has the most stupid ignorant incompetent government. We in India we could still be No 1 but as you say valiant efforts from the great nations.

In the USA, general Internet sites are for teenagers and adults, meaning that anyone below the age of 13 is a child and should not use a site without parental consent (exception for sites specifically designed for children). Because, you know, a child would never lie about their age.

Chesskid is made to be kid friendly so kids can play/learn chess without people being rude and stuff like that. There's basically no way of interacting with other people except for the messages allowed to be sent to adult accounts and the limited amount of things you can say in live chess.
Please, just look it up.
