I have renewed my Playchess membership, but is is difficult to get a game there at the times of day that I am most available. Maybe I should up my monthly contribution to the free site.

Losing connection over and over again and again because this website sucks

The site may be experiencing high volume with new memberships, (congratulations) but you will be losing many members, as well, because of the constant 502 errors. It's too frustrating having to put up with it. You can ask us to have patience but after weeks of this, it's almost untenable.

I understand some problems... These problems have been going on for a long time. Constant problems with servers and "throwing" internet connection. How do chess.com members who have paid and are deprived of the basic service of playing chess feel?

BossBlunder

Would be nice just to have CHess.com publish a statement acknowledging they recognize the problem and stating what their long- and short-term plans are to resolve

UCShreds

Is Danny running chess.com all by himself lately? wink

They did, just not on site that I've seen yet. I added that to the discussion a page back.

Thanks for the link, Martin, I never saw that one.

Growing pains are normal, and massive growth spurts are impossible to predict and difficult to manage. Actual skilled labor in all areas is ridiculously hard to find right now, and there are huge delays getting electronics into the US in the quantities demanded. HOWEVER....I, and many others, pay a healthy fee to finance this site.  I don't want my money back and I don't want to go elsewhere: I want Chess.com to come up with an innovative idea that eases the pain for their paying members...at least long enough to get the  issue under control.

Sorry.  I'm in IT... not buying this at all.  Performance and capacity management is hardly a lost art or science; and assuming they have chess games served on cloud computing environments then scaling out the infrastructure is even easier.  If there is any delay, then it is either the application or wallets are tight.

Some things are scaled out and scalable. Some things require changes to scale. Staff are working on different optimizations and capacity increases to alleviate issues. It isn't as simple as just adding compute nodes.

Twitter isn't where you make important business announcements... well, unless you're Trump or Musk...

Ok, Twitter isn't where competent people do important business.

Sadly, Danny is in such a group. Maybe with Erik’s blessing.

Danny gives off a lot of different vibes... I wouldn't say competence is one of them grin.png

Not trying to take shots at the guy... he's self aware of it.

I can't say why that same type of announcement wasn't also made here on site. However, it was an official announcement from the site happy

MrDogFace
Yeah I lost a game when your “server” stopped serving
