Add a classical rating category

I'm curious about this too. Were they working on it (as Martin said) but then gave up? Are they still working on it and somehow can't figure it out? Did they succeed but keep it secret? It would be nice to have an update.

As far as I'm aware, it's still in progress. They prioritize work and it's possible this is a lower priority update, and other work comes before any related efforts to the change. I also know one of the biggest things was the altering of the DB; there are so many records, that alter was going to be a very significant effort (and take a while).

Yep...July 2022 and I still would really like to see this implemented. Chess.com, add a Classical Rating category for 20+20 and higher time controls. Or 30 + 0 and higher.

Totally

This is actually a great idea, not only would it incentivize me to start grinding classical, it will also help me prepare for OTB tournaments.

That makes sense. Thanks for the update!

At least if Chess.com could give us a timeline, I mean even if we need to wait for a year at least tell us it will happen in one year time so we know and stop asking.

I figured it out. My internet is crappy and I have to reload a lot to keep playing. Because of this, I get a square covering my pieces not allowing me to move. I have never cheated (or my score would be much higher) but I'm being treated like a cheater,

First time I read that that happened to someone. Hope you can fix your problem.

Yeah, just imagine how useful it would be.

First opponent plays 100% stockfish moves.

Second opponent gets a losing position with 50 minutes left on his clock, and then stops moving for 40 minutes, then makes 1 move hoping you're not paying attention.

If Classical Rating is implemented, it would be nice. It would also be great if the time control feature had options for both increment and delay.

The most stockfish moves they play, the sooner they will get banned (it doesn't matter if it is the first or fifth option, chess.com's cheat detection system is the best).

If people disconnect when losing, they'll still lose in a few minutes when the system detects they are offline, the problem may be if they stay online and stall.

Classical chess is not for anyone, it requires some sacrifices, if you don't like it, it's ok. Thanks for your opinion.

Still this forum is about to add a classical chess rating category, not about classical chess vs blitz.

Banning someone AFTER the game is played hardly matters. The damage was done. They'll make a new account or there will be a new cheater ready for your next game.

I already said this. I said they will wait 40 minutes then play a move just to see if you're still paying attention.

I never mentioned blitz. I mentioned the main reasons long time controls are unpopular online.

I haven't seen anything recently about it.

I imagine there is less demand for a classical time control but there's a sizable minority of us who would love this!

Avatar of ExplosivePawn23

I absolutely agree! It makes no sense for anything over 30 minutes to be considered rapid!

Avatar of ProfBlundermaster

Probably only those with membership should be allowed to play Classical Time Controls, they should fill a form to promise to not stall in a lost position... so either play on till checkmate (if they really want to) or resign.
