android app

There were two versions realeased in the last year.
https://www.chess.com/news/view/chess-com-android-app-5015 announced version 3.7 last July. It brought in Arena tournaments and news. The Arena tournament release seems pretty major.
I see we are already at version 3.8, released on March 6th. The Play Store lists "translation improvements". Maybe not important to you but there are many non-English speakers out there.
Here was the 2017 plan- https://www.chess.com/news/view/android-roadmap-8824
They have made a number of comments about Puzzle Rush being near completion.
Honestly, I find the android app laughable. Multiple missing features - puzzle rush, unrated puzzles, conditional moves, and probably others that I don't run into, for example, and - for some unknown reason - a ridiculously deep opening book for non subscribers ( instead of capping out at three moves or so and being useless, I'm often able to see twenty moves deep, for example). I've also been informed that most of these features are available on the iPhone app; their exclusion wouldn't be so annoying if there weren't glitches with the site on mobile (sometimes I'm unable to interact with the top row, on Monday I was unable to promote pawns, and as I was against a computer I just closed the window, not realising that that'd effectively ban me from playing the computer for... A long time. Turns out that you have to be polite to computers, too.). Makes it harder and more annoying to play when I don't have my pc to hand.

@MyPalTal I would tend to agree that the apps are really lagging in functionality when compared to the website. 2 version releases in a year is very low compared to many leading apps on the Android Playstore and Apple store to be honest. That's really not good going at all. There are basic things missing that impinge on user functionality, and they have been that way for a long time now:
- In daily games one cannot save one's self analysis moves. The app easily knows one's status...subscriber or free. It should therefore not be too difficult to "unlock" this feature in the app. The self analysis board is severely hampered by one's inability to save one's moves and variations, let alone the inability to make annotations of any kind!
- In messages one cannot attach an image or a game like one can on the website or do any basic formatting. In addition the Android app has had the same bug for MONTHS now (and support are aware of it). In the Android app all images appear as minute thumbnails instead of their true size. In the iOS app images are to size but displayed sideways... I. e. rotated 90 degrees.
- Puzzle rush/learning/rated puzzles new format only available on iOS at present. In the iOS app in learning mode one cannot select a selection of tactical themes via check boxes like one can on the website. If one does not wish to practice "all themes" one is reduced to practising individual themes, one at a time!
- In the app one cannot create a daily unrated game with the takebacks feature.
- In the apps one cannot set up a live game to play one of the 20 Komodo engines or KomodoBoss or Stockfish. The facility just isn't there. If you want to play a live game against these engines you will have to do it via the website
- For daily open challenges one cannot see the full details of the challenge, and stats on the person making the challenge like one can on the website. One only sees a brief summary of the open challenge data.
I am sure there are numerous other features I have not picked up on that are not present in the apps or don't offer the same level of functionality.
The only solution is to use one's mobile web browser of choice to allow one to make use of all the websites features, but since the site is not 100% device responsive one does experience issues in places e.g. certain pop ups cut off (e.g. in the messages section the message delete dialogue box is only half visible, with the "yes " button just visible) or one experiences the need to reload unresponsive game pages often as a result of the entire board freezing up and becoming unresponsive.
So chess.com have LOTS to do. The facts are they have such potential to put out amazing app updates. There is SO MUCH they could improve and SO MANY features found on the website that are just waiting to be incorporated into the apps.
