Correspondence chess with time limits.

Please consider and comment on my idea that I have had for many years, it's a really good one:

The only reason I don't play correspondence chess is the time factor. It feels unfair because of the different amounts of time that either player is putting into each move. One person can spend a few seconds while another person might spend hours. And to me it just feels like a drag, that whoever spends the most time on it wins. You also can't see how much the opponent is putting into their moves.

It's simple: put a timer, let's say 120 seconds (can be agreed beforehand by players), on each correspondence board for each day. You can look at the board for that length of time every day then you have to make your move. If you do not make your move within that time the game is forfeit - or if you like give a warning the first time it happens.

"but some players can remember the board in their head and think about it over that time limit".

Yes, but you are obliged to not intentionally do that. There are so many ways you can cheat at online chess, most people are honest. It would really only be an issue in specific circumstances like if you're playing against a master and there are only a few pieces on the board, either way this way is better than having absolutely no limits at all. Unless the players are very high masters or beyond people won't be "cheating" or involuntarily analyzing games like this, I believe even GMs will simply move along to the next game.

Hi there. Came across your post whike checking to see if anyone had read mine. I think you can already do this...I think.

Go to new game. Click 3 days for example as the game type. Then go to custom challenge. Then go into ootions. Then you will see move speed. I am wondering if this does what you are talking about? Normally when one starts a daily game the move speed is always set to "any".

I really do not know what that means. That is very strange to me!!!!

I don't think that's what it means, as spending 3 hours per move per day would seem ridiculous.

Thanks for the comment.
