Critical bug - Web version - since today

Sort:

After the match is finished, the browser (Chrome) immediately loads an error page, saying "Fehlercode: SBOX_FATAL_MEMORY_EXCEEDED".

---

Besides, there was another bug since 2-3 days: When you've answered the fair game-question after a game, the screen scrolled down by ~50 %, covering up half of the chessboard.

Bowser

That chrome error is an issue on your end. Not sure abt the second one though.

You should use the Bug Report tool to let the developers know about this.

It is on the Help menu on the website. (Bottom left)

@Bowser I don't think that it's a client issue in that sense. Something in chess.com's frontend code causes the browser memory to exceed. Frontend bug.

@justbefair I didn't find the report tool in my menu. I have used it before. Maybe it's just accessible in-game? Don't know. Guess this forum isn't a bad place to report

It’s not some widespread issue on chess.com, so it’s not some issue with chess.com. Just try clearing your cache, it takes up a lot of ram and a lot of problems on this site can be fixed by clearing your cache

justbefair

It's in the Help menu.

@Bowser: clearing cache worked for me. Thread can be closed. They should use versioning of their js files ("?v=123") or sth to keep them updated. Don't know. But it works now

@justbefair: Thanks! When I saw your post I noticed that I have zoom on +110%. The menu stopped exactly under "Settings" and couldn't be scrolled down (which is a little UI bug^^).

Anyways thx guys. Problem solved. And I have my help menu back. tongue thumbup

Yesterday was horrible, a bit better today. reporting bugs does not help, IT guys are working hard but can't address them or fix what was lost in my case (see my Post "Numerous bugs unfortunately").

Now I'm getting a lot of 502 errors, something is up with their servers :/

There have been a lot of reports of the 502 errors-- with the picture with Danny Rensch.   The theory is that high user demand caused by the Puzzle Week promotion and the popularity of the cat bots is straining the servers.

Well... @mods the "SBOX_FATAL_MEMORY_EXCEEDED" error is back. My guess is there must be some loops in your JS that loop too much. Happens when game is finished and the analysis runs through

---

Altogether I think chess.com is pretty well coded. Regarding the UI, the feedback system etc. I like the service very much. Bugs happen. Atm there are a few unnecessary bugs occuring, that's true

Do you have any plugins or add-ons? Those can interfere with site code and cause issues. Also, what version of the browser are you on?

Chrome is one of the suggestted browsers and a lot of members are using it. This is the first time I've seen any report like this, so if it was a problem with the site code and Chrome, it should be widely reported.

calamaras

@Martin_Stahl: Latest version. Plugins only Google Translator.

Atm the problem doesn't occur. Who knows. If it occurs again I'll report via report function

Maris1966

Same issue here, no extensions.

Martin_Stahl

For those with the issue, is it happening just after games? If so, do you have Automatic Analysis on?

DoctorMantisTobogganMD

This keeps happening to me today I keep getting : Error code: SBOX_FATAL_MEMORY_EXCEEDED

After every game has finished then reloads.

Do you have Automatic Analysis on in settings? If you disable does it still happen?

I just saw that I have Automatic Analysis off. So the error should be caused by the after-game procedure, but not by the automatic analysis.

As said, the problem occurs since 1-2 days. Never seen before. So it has to do with the latest updates I guess

Same here. Really annoying. A lot of people are using Chrome so I can't believe this isn't adressed as a critical bug.

There are some tickets in about it but it doesn't impact everyone. Figuring out why it's happening, is likely going to take some time unless devs are able to get it to happen easily.

ShikshaWithPraveen

Happened 10 times to me yesterday. I can confirm that this is an issue from chess.com and it has nothing to do with clearing your cookies / cache or refreshing your browser. This has been relentlessly happening since yesterday (FATAL ERROR). It happened to me and my opponent at the same time during a bullet game (I was watching his stream and saw that we both faced this error at the same time)

The solution is needed from tech at the server end. Please stop coming back asking the user to refresh his browser.
