Disconnection should be reworked

I just HATE the fact that once you disconnect, you lose. It's ridiculous and that doesn't make any sense. Just WHY? To save other's time? Is it worth it? I don't mind waiting if another person disconnects rather than win unfairly. I just got really distraught by the fact that I lost a winning endgame because I got disconnected just for 30 seconds (we've got a terrible, wuthering blizzard today so yeah, that was probably because of that). Chess.com really should rework it.

I agree. I have a top end gaming PC and have a very fast fibre optic line. I have done tests on the speed and latency and have zero problems with HD video streaming, or other online games. But here, I get disconnected so much and when I reconnect again, I have already lost the game. Even though I was cut off for 20 seconds and had plenty of time left on the clock. I guess it registers me as abandoning the game.

Admin always blames our own connection as the problem and never their servers, but trust me, my connection is plenty good lol. Since they deny there are any cheats that allows hackers to disconnect opponents, and that it has nothing to do with the servers, this problem will never go away lol.

Edit: I'd like to add, does anyone else find it odd that we get reconnected straight away, right after we auto-resigned due to the disconnect time out? Very strange right?

There are a couple of possibilities. One is that you get reconnected and when the client gets the game state, it registers the loss by disconnect.

The other option, if the client believes there's an end condition, such as a time loss, it attempts to connect to get the official game state and ratings from the server, is unable to get the data due to being disconnected, and attempts to reestablish the connection.

Thanks for the reply. I understand what you are trying to explain, but this is what consistently happens unfortunately. My connection from chess.com drops, even if I have 2 mins left on the clock. Typically my connection will drop 15-20 secs, and after connection is reestablished, I have already forfeited the game. I have never reconnected and been able to continue the game.

To put things in a different perspective too, I have a very fast wired internet connection. I have no issues at all with HD video streaming. I also play FPS games with low latency and have no issues with lag, disconnections or the likes. I even play chess on other platforms and don't have the same disconnection problems as I do here, it's just unfortunate chess.com is the most popular platforn.

Like I said, chess.com doesn't believe this to be an issue with their servers or their programming, and their believe is that the problem only exists client side. As I actually have no such connection issues with other games or other chess platforms, there is a contradition here. Therefore, this issue will always remain as there is no acknowledgement of this, despite many people reporting this.
