Hints not going

I was playing and tried for a hint. I pressed it multiple times and nothing happened. Finally, it said “if you want a fourth hint, you’ll only get one star”. What? It never even gave me a hint!!

I believe the hint just highlights the piece to move.
I know. It doesn’t do that.
