I don’t like moderators in general

Chess.com can't just allow any two users to enter into an unmoderated zone because it doesn't know who many of the users really are. There really are a lot of young players who aren't legally of age to  waive their rights. The cost and complexity of figuring that all out might require all users to be paid members.

It's simpler and better to impose some mild restrictions on expression.

Those who want to abuse each other can take advantage of the many ways to communicate these days through third party sites like discord.

this is actually finally a cogent counterargument. thank you, good thought to consider.

Yeah, pretty good explanation.

A good suggestion @DatFurryBoi420

Regarding the original subject of not liking moderators, bear in mind that they are simply the "referees" of Chess.com; working stiffs like the rest of us. Nobody likes the ref; not in baseball or football or soccer or any sport for that matter. Just like the police are "referees" of society; nobody likes them either but they're there all the same.

IsraeliGal

you can't compare the police to some moderators on a chess site lol

Mods are our friends.

---   That statement may just be going a bit too far. The mods are working for the site, so we know where their loyalty lies.

Mods are cool, they protecc

@Soniasthetics---------I WASN'T....I was comparing how thankless their respective tasks are in their respective areas! They are ALL essentially referees of their particular domains; without which absolute anarchy would reign supreme.  So once again I state:   "nobody likes the REF...but nobody can deny that the REF is essential to the GAME"...!!!...

IsraeliGal

Moderators aren't essential because they dont do their job.

All they do is lock important or informative threads and let toxic useless ones live.

okay i do see your point. I am a person that can be very kind and caring, but i can also be a real SOB. and in regards to reddit, this may come as a suprise for you, but their moderators are not as lenient as you may think. people are banned from sub-reddits regularly. myself included

If you're getting banned from Sub reddits you must be doing some crazy stuff.

Idk why u would get so into arguing that u want to just say whatever u want no matter how rude or disgusting it may be.

It's a chess site, just play the damn game. Im sure there are websites out there like 4chan, or certain discord groups or whatever that allow that nonsense, but I don't see why you would do it. It's just shortening your lifespan with all the anger you're generating.

Hmm. Seems like there was originally some agreement that keeping the chess.com forum from some of the nonsense allowed on 4chan or some discord groups had a purpose.

That would be nice, but unfortunately you guys have no idea how to actually moderate the forums.

Community guidelines are broken on a regular basis and you couldn't care less, but you lock posts and threads that are actually useful or informative that don't even break any Community guidelines.

You have spammers, attention grabbers who post in general chess section with completely irrelevant content, and nothings done about it. There's witchhunts in the forums, people ganging up on other members circlejerking on forums, you don't do anything.

So yeah If I were you I wouldn't be surprised if a large part of the chess.com members base doesn't hold any respect for the mods. Instead of addressing criticism or taking insight from something you just mute people or lock threads, so theres no point interacting with u guys.

lfPatriotGames

Like it or don't, Sonia has several legitimate concerns.

Mattew

Yeah, but the moderators are doing their best for making Chess.Com a good place

This thread was started by a poster who wanted an unmoderated forum so that he could engage in psychological warfare against his opponents.

You originally told the original poster that his request for an unmoderated forum was not reasonable.

Now you seem to want to take the opposing point of view.

/ We certainly miss things. There are thousands of posts every day.
