I'm new to chess.com - my two cents

I’ve only recently become a subscriber to Chess.com.

For me, the platform’s greatest strength lies in its user-friendliness and in the ability to play against people from all over the world, regardless of their skill level. It’s a convenient alternative to playing physical chess in cafés or parks. What I enjoy most is getting the chance to play (and usually lose!) against very strong players — that’s how I learn and improve. I don’t need an ELO rating to boost my ego; for me, chess is a challenging battle game, not a measure of self-worth. As a self-declared hedonist, my goal is simply to enjoy the experience.
Despite a few small hurdles, Chess.com offers plenty of courses and learning tools that make it easy and fun to improve one’s skills. True, one could argue that other platforms like Lichess offer similar or even more advanced features for free (especially for power users). Still, Chess.com stands out with its clean design, intuitive navigation, and user-friendly interface.

Some additional features beyond pure gameplay are nice to have, but not essential. I’m not entirely sure what the practical benefit of things like Streak is — does anyone really need that to enjoy playing chess globally? It seems like more of a marketing gimmick designed to keep user engagement high — an easy trap to fall into.

Unfortunately, the iOS/iPhone version is quite limited in functionality and, at best, acceptable. The iPad version (especially under Apple Silicon Mac) performs poorly, while the iPhone version works but still feels restricted. I also don’t understand why user stats differ so dramatically between the web and iOS versions — I had assumed the data would sync automatically through the cloud.

Lastly, there’s a small number of users who misuse Chess.com’s forums or social features to express negativity, draw attention to themselves, or post irrelevant content. Sadly, moderation in these areas seems invisible. I’d love to see temporary and progressively longer bans for such behavior.

The data does sync automatically. The apps load the data from the same place web does.
