I've gotten the text way before using half of my time. Like I said, I had four minutes left on 5+5 game and I got the text.
Agreed that it's annoying and inappropriate. I understand the logic behind it, but there are too many features here catering to the impatience and short attention spans of the era. "It's not fair that I have to wait 2 whole minutes! They probably just abandoned! End the game (and give me my points, too). People want to have their cake and eat it too. I'm not saying there should be zero abandonment features, but the priorities in the current features are way too skewed. At least 20% of my games end in something that had nothing to do with chess. If that many people are truly abandoning, police them better. But I know that's not the case because I'm occasionally on the wrong side of it, and I never abandon a game.

Abandonment can be caused by a lot of different things, from actually abandoning, loss of Internet connection, or a connection issue between a player and the live server they're connecting to.
The site is cognizant of the time of both players, and has an abandonment timer in place to minimize wasting player's time on an opponent that likely isn't going to reconnect.
With 21+ million games a day, that can potentially prevent a lot of waiting.
During the game I've reacently gotten feedback time after time, that I need to make a move, or the game will be abondened. Yesterday I was playing 5+5 and when my clock was around 4 minutes on move 5 or so, I already got this message on my screen, that I need to make move in 10 seconds, or I will lose the game. Since when can you not think for even a minute during chess game? That is super annoying and has ruined my game flow in most of my games reacently. I'm quite a slow player, but what is the point of forcing the player to rush with the moves? Why couldn't I use a minute or two to think, if that is what I choose? This has happened to me on 5+5, 2+1 and 15+10. I don't understand how even in bullet you are forced to move faster than you would like. And when playing slower time controls, the whole point is to have time to think. But no, chess.com gives a message, tha you need to move in 10 seconds, or loose the game. That makes zero sense. Chess is supposed to be about who makes the best moves within the timeframe of the timecontrol. Now there is another timecontrol you need to worry, which is chess.com arbitrarily sending messages, that you need to move in then seconds. This ruines the game experience. Please fix this.
