@Martin_Stahl

Well, I can't try it because I can't get to the Settings inside a Game Review anymore. The gear icon (top right of board in Review) brings up (I imagine a buggy) overlay of white text on the left side of the board showing me the Chess Engine, etc. -- but no options dialog. I got to the settings somehow this morning but can't find a way to get back to them now.

Well, if two versions is not an option then just take the best option. I think it's pretty clear what the best one is when you read this thread. Besides... Don't tell me this is tested. You are beta testing it right now and we are the guinea pigs.

It was in the beta for three weeks before moving to a wider number of members for additional feedback.

If that is what came out after beta testing for 3 full weeks of testing then either you have a very different perception of what testing is than I do or those beta testers played you for a fool. In any case... You have managed to make it feel like we are lab rats anyway. I'm sure you got people to find blatant bugs and get those out of the way. But you can not convince me that you actually listened to those testers.. Or you put testers on that were severely biased towards you guys. Anyway... will not renew when you made the one thing that i came for, impractical to use.

my thoughts exactly. the reason I got a paid subscription was to get unlimited review.

it used to be as good as you could expect but now? significantly worse - and it affects paying users much more than free users who only get one review per day

has it occurred to you that it affects mainly paying members? free users only get 1 review per day, afair...

As a free user, I remember when we used to get 5 free reviews a day. Those were the good ol' days! It’s true that the recent changes seem to impact paying members more significantly, but it’s sad to see how things have changed for all users over time.

I too will not renew my paid subscription, let alone go ahead with my upgrade.
But I'm pretty sure one review a day is ONLY for paid Gold members. AFAIK free users get zero reviews?
Not that it matters anyway, with it being turned from perfect to trash...

Please bring back the previous review!

WotACal1

Only subbed for game review really, unsubbing until this monstrosity is fixed

I thought I'd give the new game review a chance... it's crap compared to the old one

what's worse: as paying users we're being taken for granted and some d******d has decided that they're not going to listen

I'm going to cancel my membership on the back of this. whoever decided this is going to cost the site a lot of money

Didn’t really answer the questions. Is it better? And in what way?

Better is subjective. It still does what I want it to do and provides the same functions I expected Game Review to provide.

Oh, it does what SELFISH you wants, so it's fine? It's taking at least 3 things away that I really liked and PAID for! Most hilarious: AGAIN someone asks you to SPECIFY what's better, and you DON'T because you CAN'T!!!!

Would also point out the new review system draws a lot more GPU usage, and the animations are very laggy at times while you start going back and forth quickly. (Running a 4070 series GPU)

Review itself doesn't use CPU/GPU. It's all run server side. When viewing the results, the engine code for analysis is loaded, though I'm not aware of that having changed.

There are some graphical elements that probably increase browser load somewhat, though I don't know by how much.

Click the settings icon next the board and you can change the behavior under Interface > Review > Review As and change it to the color you played in that game. in future reviews it will be the color you played.

Ok, thanks for the tip, I'll try it. I would like to note that that's not obvious. I asked support how I could select "The color I played" as opposed to black or white. They didn't know. This could use some redesign. If the setting was set to "White", I'd expect it to always review White (which is pretty useless, I think we can agree). Same with Black. Therefore, better options might be:

Review from:

My side
Opponet's side
Both sides

I think there's might be some changes in labeling but it has to accommodate reviewing games not played by the account as well

If you're on mobile web you'll need to switch to the analysis tab to get the appropriate settings dialog. There's a ticket to add a settings gear to the review header for mobile optimized web, so that should change at some point.

Actually, should have looked before posting, that's available now.

The beta is open and there are over 5,000 members that get beta code. There was positive and negative feedback and bug reports as well.

That's not what I said. I was asked a question about my personal opinion. I answered that question. I'm not a decision maker here and can just provide feedback like other members about features.

For me, the system still works and does what I need it to so there is nothing worse than it was. I completely understand that not everyone will agree

So, having repeatedly refused the opportunity to say how it’s an improvement in your eyes, I’ll assume you’re among those who don’t find it to be an improvement. Welcome.

EDIT:

Today we released the new version of Game Review on web to all members so we can no longer support moving people to the old version. While I know not everyone loves the change, it's something we are moving forward with as we have found a lot of positives as well, and it's hard to balance the needs of our 150 million members.

I will say that the feedback from the community was instrumental in improving the product since it was initially released as we have implemented many changes. We also have a Support article here that goes into even more detail about the new Game Review design and some of the related settings. https://support.chess.com/en/articles/9363826-game-review-redesign

____________

Hi all! Sorry for the frustration with the new version of Game Review. I have migrated everybody in this thread who had a negative experience back to the old version of Game Review (let me know if it did not go through for you). We will eventually be moving to a new design, but will be sure to think through all of your feedback. Thanks as always for sharing your opinions. It helps make Chess.com and the community great! happy.png

I was not on mobile web, I was running in Edge on Win 10 Pro. Latest stuff. I killed it all, started new sessions today and was able to get to it. If I can repro, I'll let you know.

To everyone complaining about the new Review: I think it's great that people are taking time to let Chess.com know how you feel. However, as a professional developer myself, I'd like to suggest that we refrain from attacking the developers/managers personally as that's not helpful. They are doing what they think is an improvement (I've never known a developer to intentionally make something worse -- well, except Amazon Music, but that's another thread). What IS helpful is to be specific about what is harder or worse or displeasing. There are many comments here that say it's worse or it used to be better, but with no specifics about why and what. I think adding specific examples of things that take more clicks or information that's harder to find would be helpful to the development team and would make it more likely that we get something everyone is happy with. Just my two cents.

I appreciate the gesture, but instead of listening to everyone and permanently reverting back to the superior version all you are doing is stopping the legitimate complaints by temporary giving the "complainers" what they want. And then soon enough the new version will be final, because ,well, the complaints did stop!
