The Principle of Glicko RD is... Questionable (?)

glicko can increase

edit: so the original guy deleted his comment and yeah i got ownership sadly of the forum

so basically he said glicko system was messed up which is not true

duntcare

change of rating alters glicko.... its there to prevent players who arent that rating from being that rating and have to farm the way up

duntcare

glicko can go up or down

and its not 0, glicko gets to the point every game its 8 change and at grnadmaster rating it finally gets lower from games and low or because of the rating system (not glicko) theres less change

I see the only reason for the RD system to exist in the first place is to be a somewhat standard deviation for any rating we have as a player. We also know that with time, our RD will gradually decreases, making our rating changes less significant by the day. Here's the problem: is there a guarantee that people changes even less every time they play? Because the assumption of the RD system is that we will eventually find our "true rating". But people changes and they learn. So I think that there should be a way for the Glicko RD to increase somehow, because our "true rating" may eventually change. I hope that this is easy to comprehend. Thx y'all.

More or less 100% of your propositions / statements / etc are false.

Congrats, that takes effort.

Also this is... perhaps not the best place to post criticism of Glicko, because Glicko is not a chess.com invention, it's the invention of a Harvard professor of statistics and used by more than just chess websites.

Ok thanks for correcting me, tbh the information relating to Glicko RD is outright rare and it's good to know more about it.

The site has removed the Glicko RD from all the stats pages on the website.

The reason wasn't explained.

I don't know if it was just considered too confusing to people or if chess.com has some other rating system in mind.

I had a nice explanation of the functionality of RD typed up, but the site at it.

So fk off chess.com.

Because people who majored in advertising don't understand data or the people who find it useful.

No, it's primarily there to stabilize the system of ratings so that 1200 from 5 years ago and 1200 today represent the same level of skill.

What that means for individuals is that you can expect your rating to go up only when you preform better and down only when you preform worse.
