This annoying bug is still present, it seems that it's not a priority to fix it?

Nope, I've reported it multiple times in the last few months and every time get told "it is probably a connection issue."

When you have minimal lag and high speed internet and have this happen constantly its a "connection issue".

Wonder how many games were lost to this since I posted.

I also got the "It's a connection issue" message from Lukasz, I suspect that it's a stock answer and that no one has really taken the time to understand the problem. It is a very obvious and clear bug for it to go unnoticed for so long.

I got one of them to put in a suggestion to remove the timer before round 10, since you can't resign before then

I just tested this auto-resign thing in a couple of 3 min arena games. I let the 15 seconds pass before move ten, and the game did not auto-resign, but another strange things happened: when I get down to 30 seconds, my clock suddenly goes down to 15 seconds, so I get a a time penalty?! I wonder if this is intentional or a bug.

That is the game. You can see that at move 28 I apparently spent 22 seconds on Nd5, which was definitely not the case. That is the time penalty.

For me, it is even more annoying than a forced resign. I cannot imagine anything more frustrating in a blitz game than someone else messing with my time. I will keep on playing this week because I have already invested time in reaching the Champion league, but after that I won't touch the play button until they remove that auto-resign "feature".

I do not think a 1200 player can get in a complex position at move 9 and a 400 rated player can't tell about real chess..

I play slow chess (25 minutes 5sec inc or 30 min 3-5 sec inc) at a different sight my suggestion is don't play blitz, bullet or tournaments with multiplayer.

Just looking at the timestamps, it isn't easy to tell what could be going on. Lag can just as easily explain the time on move 28 as anything else. Maybe record the screen and if that shows a sudden 15 second drop during your turn, open a ticket to support and explain you have video of the the time loss. It that loss came after your opponent's move, that also can be explained by lag on your connection to the site.

This is all a bit besides the point, no? There is a bug in the website, and it should be fixed. End of story.

ericthatwho

Tell the bug.

The terms of service does give chess.com the rights to do this.

And all of you agreed.

And just do not play speed tournaments with many players in line. And it wont happen.

c_saavedra

The bug is described here: https://www.chess.com/forum/view/site-feedback/stop-forcing-auto-resign-in-games?page=3#comment-67713305

Everything else you are saying is totally besides the point.

ericthatwho

I asked you to post the "bug" not give me a link where others are talking.

Just do not play speed chess in tournaments and it will not happen.

c_saavedra

The link is to this same conversation, just a couple of messages above.

Just stop talking about unrelated things in the conversation then.

I like the auto timeouts. The three min games are speed chess. You’re not supposed to take time to think.

this strange feature is in all rapid games. I  have played on this platform 3, 5 or 10 minutes games  I don't suppose  the purpose of this strange auto-resign feature is there because you are not supposed to think in a  5 or 10 minute game because after 20 moves or so it is not there anymore !  In the  middle game things start to get more complicated and you may then need more time to think  rather than in the beginning. If this feature is to knock off players who do not make a move in a bad /lost position  for a long time  this is is implemented in the wrong way. Should be activated after move 20 not from first move.  To the platform authority: Generally I think  the normal chess rules should apply in all games. Each game has a  predefined time limit controlled by the game clock. If the game does not end with a win or a draw according to the chess rules  the outcome will be decided by the game clock.  Don't make up some new chess rules like this auto -resign rule. and the fever notifications during game the better.

Lol. If you don't want to think in three minute chess games, I suggest you go to play checkers

I get the idea of auto-resign, I just don't like when chess.com does it to me, when I'm in a WINNING position. Up 1.1 and chess.com auto resigns me??? If auto-resign is going to be a thing, at least chess.com should see what the evaluation is. If I'm in a winning position, how on earth is it right to auto-resign me?
