vacation time is ridiculous

I totally agree! It's just disrespectful for the other player to make him wait for the "two months or sooner" of vacation time and having to be waiting for the person to make a move. I wish they got rid of it😩

Yea…I’m playing a game with a person who literally is in a lost position %100 and refuses to resign and just did a “vacation” time to not lose.

Premium members are automatically placed on vacation when low on time in one or more games. That happening can't be disabled.

What I hate is playing a daily against someone already playing like 19 daily matches, and then they end up having to pause the game every other day because they don't have enough time to keep up with all of those matches.

There seems to be a simple solution to all of this: when you start a correspondence game there should be an option to allow pauses or not. I'd turn it off every time because I only play 1 or 2 correspondence games at a time so I can focus.

I agree to a point. I've had players who had "months of vacation" as well. It can be frustrating, but i remind myself that perhaps it is due to unforeseen emergencies. Who knows? Sure, it can be and is abused as well. I just let the time run out and move on to other games. It might be helpful if there could be a way that two players could mutually agree on time extensions in daily games. If there is a way now, i'm not aware of it. Could this be a possibility?

There's a Daily setting on the website to automatically claim on timeout. If that's off, games won't get claimed until you manually claim or until no move has been made for 60 days after time expires.

I did not know that, or have forgotten. (Old man syndrome) Can it be chosen for individual games/opponents or is it for all games?

All games but you should have an option when it's off to claim individual games.

It's retarded, pathetic. Daily can already take a long time to finish so why on earth would they let people go on holiday... Bloody hell.

There should be a no vacation option for daily games

The fact that it can take months to complete a game and years to complete events is he reason vacation might be needed.

Abasolutely ridiculous, my opponent is in a losing position, has taken 3 mos vacation time remaining (at least that's what it says). The point is he didn't take it UNTIL he started to lose material. This is totally BS, it's like a childs site for chess.
Lichess is WAY better than than this joke.

Vacation time is only ridiculous until you have to go on vacation

The problem is that vacation serves a purpose... sometimes you are unable to play, like a deep woods camping trip with no access or a medical emergency/procedure that puts you out for a time. Being able to pause a game for 2 weeks or so is a valid and useful thing for this type of game. Its equally valid to lose on time just like any other timed game, but when a game can last half a year, losing it on time because you were in a car wreck or lost power or wandering the woods is sort of unfair. The same thing is facing the guys who take 99.999% of their time each move, so you are still in the opening a month later for a 3 day/ move game. Its allowed, but its also awful.. they are trolling their opponents in hopes they give up and resign or something rather than play it out.

There isn't a good way to have nice features that accommodate a busy life AND not allow such to be abused somehow, some way, by those determined to do so. Perhaps a limitation of 15 days max per game would be solid compromise.
