Someone who has to ask that question shouldn't be talking about cluelessness.

The forums are what people make them + what is allowed.  So, in sum total they are a reflection of the people here, limited only by the allowed posting criteria.  Chess.com has been quite lenient for years now, and this atmosphere/environment is the logical result.  Trolling is doubly bad at this point, it buries the forums in crap, *and* it drives away people that would otherwise post good content and have some chance of pulling it out of said crap.  Ultimately, chess.com is free to give the members what the majority clearly wants...a bunch of nonsense, the majority not even chess-related, punctuated by the occasional Batgirl article that seems almost completely out of place at this point when compared to its surroundings.

I always have to laugh though when the people responsible for the boring, inane, and the repetitive get bored themselves and lament the situation they made for themselves.  It's a lack of awareness that is part and parcel of the problem to begin with.

Never a truer word...

I'll respectfully disagree. I've observed a great deal of "cleaning up" egregious behavior of late. Topics that have no business being posted no longer exist for long. I've often criticized a too lenient approach, but to be fair Staff has taken steps in the right direction as seen from my view. 2Q accounts, at least the ones where obvious Abuse is easily observed are banned quite quickly. Enforcement of policies do seem to change rather quickly so who knows what will come about a month from now.

What is prevalent and highly visible at present are all the "kids", minors that are creating useless threads, using the forums as personal chat rooms talking about the usual stuff kids chat about. Not necessarily trolling, just acting their age. For too much of this behavior is allowed to fill up the pages. I was under the impression that minors needed parents permission to open accounts, that activities were to be supervised. Clearly not the case. Remember when Staff posted notice "useless and senseless" threads would be deleted? Lasted about a month. The warning disappeared. Most likely a business decision, let the kids be, no matter they play very few chess games, advertisers love their numbers as they are usually freebe accounts.

An example is when kids would create topics as chess leads to suicide (jokingly .. but acting very serious.)The thread lasted for weeks with no intervention. Staff came to their senses and next time one was made it was quickly stopped with a link to a help line. That issue became personal. Got myself into a bit of trouble when it was permitted to carry on for so long. Result ? Changes were made in moderation of potentially harmful or disrespectful topics.

I'm not saying there isn't a lot of cleanup activity.  Mods are constantly battling.  The problem is that they are on a treadmill, like someone trying to pay themselves out from under massive credit card debt.  The interest is being paid, but the balance will never come down...

RonaldJosephCote

What are you gonna do....quit?  Did Staff quit when Chief Firion came here?  Did Staff quit when 2Q showed up.?  You want them to quit just because drmrboss ordered some trolls from lichess to bomb us.? shock.png

r u saying it was @drmrboss all along or that he suffers from split personality?

MustangMate

drmrboss has sported a decent chess rating for some time, much higher than than the usual play of the misfit in question when he plays under his own power. But is he smart enough to fool members with multiple accounts? Chances are slim to none wink.png
