Abandoning a game

When you said abandonment I thought you meant the ACTUAL process of abandonment,

Vicount... You say they are automatically reported, but I find that difficult to believe considering how frequent it is.

draxx_them_sklounst

Both are abandoning... one just is also automatically registered as abandoning on this site, when they close the browser window.  But if they keep the window open, it forces you to wait the whole time out, and then it's almost certainly malicious.  If they get reported, then why doesn't it notify that it registered as abandoning the game like it does when they close the browser window?  I'm highly skeptical that there is anything in place.  If there is, then they do a very poor job of letting people know.  Of course I do block those people, but with as many people as there are on the site, I'm always going to run into someone else who does it.

I see this is an old thread and zero change by Chess.com unfortunately , I came here because I googled , "why do so many abandon games "

I have not even been playing , just following and watching games , say 6 at a time , well over half these games get aborted for no reason at all , in completely even board positions , in some cases better , or after move 1. resign immediately , , it looks like a major problem to me and one that has not been fixed.

I realize this must be a particularly bad run and not usual , but today abandoning seems to be the fasion , one guy I was watching , happened to him about %60 of the time.

Yes and it would be easy enough to detect network logout as opposed to staying on chess.com or worse starting a new game , the two situations could be treated different and a small amount of time for network logout allowed.

Add the time for each move. Ex: 2 mins per move

Quick tip for people who hate players abandoning games; try to get your ratings higher, normally this all occurs in the beginners zone. I know this because whenever I play someone who is a new player this always happen.

cybergirl123

Honestly, I would just resign if I was losing, rather then get wild.

Just abort them.

I realize this is slightly different/off-topic, but has anyone else had issues with people accepting new matches and then just letting them time out without moving at all (even 10-dayers)?  I have had multiple people do this now, and it's incredibly annoying.  At least it's not halfway through a good game, I suppose.

I only just joined chess.com a few days ago. I was one move from checkmate and suddenly "game abandoned " came up. I was asked by the app if I thought the opponent was sportsmanlike but I was so confused, I didn't know how to respond.

If the other person abandons the game why am I the one who loses??

snarflingburger

Yes, I’m necroposting, but this is still a major problem on the site. I feel like it happens to me in at least half the games I win. Clearly whatever measures chess.com took to discourage this behavior are woefully insufficient. They really ought to be banning these people from the platform.

Commander_POTU

I report and block any player that does this to me. If everyone did that then the only people they would have left to play is other bad sports.

bradberry

My solution has been to play mostly on Lichess.org. Open-source, no-ads, free, lessons, works great, and the players feel more honest.

Chess.com should take action about this problem, it’s very frequent… I’m losing hundreds of minutes waiting for moron that abandoned games. That really hurts my free time and my chess experience on this site.

Gonna take a wild guess, based on the first post for this problem being 11 years ago.... Chess.com does give a @)(U* and that's why these losers keep wasting the time of anyone that's really is here to improve and nothing will be done about it... for the next 11 year years.

I greatly enjoy chess on this forum. However, I do NOT understand why some opponents abandon a game and / or somehow the game is disconnected. I don't know HOW to do either, but I'd rather resign than just abandon. Could someone explain how this happens?

Often, I complement my opponent when it's obvious he / she deserves the win.

Thank you!
