Why is it that people are still moaning about something that can not happen?
YOUR OPPONENT CAN NOT ABORT A GAME AFTER THE FIRST MOVE.
THEY CAN DISCONNECT, WHICH IS THE SAME AS SITTING THERE AND LETTING THEIR CLOCK RUN DOWN (rude, I agree, but you still get all your points for winning the game).
If they abort on their FIRST MOVE, that is not so terrible a thing, you haven't wasted much time. Maybe they had a good reason, like a desperate urge to pee.
Players on a bad connection often time out - but Chess.com tells you on the screen that the other player has lost connection. Annoying, but that's life.
Some players deliberately let their clock run down when they are hopelessly losing. They do this to be obnoxious, but hey, some people are like that. Block them, post them a note saying how rude they are, and report them if you see a similar note has already been posted.
I agree with dingo. Also I'm really tired of sore losers. They will play 50000000 games with you until they loose then quit immediately and won't respond to any game requests. Get some testicular fortitude and admit when you loose ,except it and move on! Also those players that feel like their going to loose and disconnect, wait 50 seconds and reconnect, then disconnect and so on and never make a move! Really irritating!
Hey buddy
Just my opinion here. Chess, above all, is a game that teaches one respect. When your opponent resigns when you make a strong move or series of moves, they are admitting that they cannot recover from their bad position, and that they made a fatal mistake already, and that is something both of you can learn from by going over the game and analyzing both your mistakes and your opponent's. As you improve at the game, you will begin to notice that losing your queen can legitimately be grounds for resignation, because fighting on is often a futile endeavor.
Though I agree that not all players are respectful, and many times players will disconnect out of rage or a false sense of sneakiness or exhibit other poor forms of sportsmanship like trash talking and not accepting a rematch when they've won several games in a row and you won a single game at the end, you cannot teach others respect. It's something that comes naturally with the will to improve, and for many, it never comes at all.
Chess has taught me to be patient, and in my patience, I have learned much more and much quicker. There will always be sore losers, poor sportsmanship, and a lack of respect in this game just as in all aspects of life. Take solace in the fact that you can block / report opponents that do things you find offensive or that violate the fair play policy, and that you will never need to play them again (blocking players means you are no longer paired with them). But always remember that at whatever level you are, there will always be players like this. If you cannot change them, you can at least change your outlook
