All The Reasons We Hate V3!

My V3 login at a chess workshop, great going chess.com!

No need to post the same content in multiple threads, although I imagine I might get furious, too, if this happened to me.

A repeat of my answer from Interested in a Live Show about V2-V3?

What browser/OS combination is doing this?

The typical reasons for this kind of stuff include:

  • disabled Javascript, or
  • disabled styles, or
  • ancient cached CSS content (that's one case where the annoying recommendation to clear the caches and restart the browser actually may work).

Also tell CaptainPike that the Opera browser is way superior to Firefox.  I can keep 15 tabs open with no issues.

OK, I'll give Opera a try! Thank you!

... But why can't I size images anymore in some forums/comments? I really dislike the loss of that feature ....

Probably mentioned but thread too large to search. I can change the background theme but not the chess board style/color in the puzzle section. It seems to work in other parts of the site, just not the puzzle section.

Therefore I am stuck with this horrific bright green checkered board that does not allow me to focus on it for more than a few secs. Please fix. The original brown/light cream chess board was great. The bright green one is an assault on my vision. Again, the option to change it does not work (in puzzle section). If I am stuck with that green board after sept 30, guess I will have to find some other more vision-friendly chess site.

I prefer V2 because it is brighter and tidy.

I have no problems resizing images in posts that I make.

The option to change the board and pieces on a puzzle/diagram is on the Theme tab after setting up the position/importing the PGN.

If you mean Tactics Trainer, it uses the same board set in Settings > Board and Pieces

Finally, if you mean something like the Daily Puzzles, that is defined by the staff member posting the puzzles. Both sites use the theme created by the poster.

I still switch between the  v2 and v3. The last thing I found today was the open seeks in v3 works fine again. Thank you!

Mirjana_k

You are really improving chess.com. Im not expert, but i guess it's not easy to make everything work perfect. Many things are still frustrating on v3, but one of my problems is solved, and i thank you for it. I found my challenges down onder my curent games. ( what you was talking about, Martin, but it was not there, now it is). Thanks!

Please go on like that, and please, try to keep V2, because that one is almost perfect !

Winter_Biking

Something works fine in V3. Yesterday I was happy to see that "My open invites" as it's called in V2 finally worked as "Open seeks" in V3. Today I was forced back to V2 again because it was taken away from me again. So please don't shut down V2.

In V2, I easily switched to analyze window. In V3, I have to switch to V2 to do it. Will they really ban V2 soon?

Their official statement a while ago was that V2 will be terminated when V3 is... functioning without bugs or missing features (I forget the exact term they used). Since they're still in the midst of working bugs and other issues out of it, consider it inevitable, but indefinitely far off.

V2 ceases on september 30th,2017 according to the messages I get from Chess.com

While switching to V2 used to greet you with a banner announcing the Sept. 30th termination date, the latest word from Erik, posted in the Chess.com V2 group/club, is that the date is not really set yet. See this news item: V2 End Date Update (No Date Set).

The current banner says:

This version of Chess.com (V2) will be shutting down in the near future, once we have better support for older devices. 98% of our members are using the new site and we need to focus on one platform for the future.

We hope the new Chess.com (V3) will continue to be your chess home. We understand that some of you are nervous about the new site, so we have prepared this video to walk you through both sites at the same time. Please take the time to watch and see.

Additionally, for those who really want the new site to look the most like the old site, we have the link www.chess.com/classic which will set your theme and Home to be the most like V2 (caution - it will change your background image, which you can change back). Finally, we are removing the link to “Old site” from the V3 nav. You can find the link to switch at www.chess.com/settings/home-interface

If you would like some additional help, please contact our support team at https://support.chess.com

Sincerely, the Chess.com Team

Never mind the messages. Switch to V3: Try the new Chess.com! and then immediately switch back to V2 by clicking on the "Old Site" menu item (may be showing as a text-less icon with two arrows turning corners). The green stuff should be visible at the top of the resulting page that shows up in V2.

Good point, and I wish Erik would address this. The change of the underlying codebase does not force anyone to change the layout and appearance.

I suspect it might have to do with adjusting the layout to be more usable on mobile devices & tablets.

The excuse in the past has always been, "we can't continue to keep two versions concurrently, it costs too much".  Undecided

@wallyjack - did you watch the video that Danny Rensch did?

V2 is literally built on a technology foundation that is unsustainable and dying. Plus, the data structures are old and are holding back future development.

Give yourselves a tiny bit of time. Seriously. YouTube has changed every 6 months for the last 10 years. People go bananas. Then they get used to it. Try it.

Mind you after having been a member of Chess.com for 10 years I'm really unimpressed with the V3 version and once V2 goes then, methinks,so will I

Is it just me or has the worst hatred of v3 come from long-standing members?
