Well you just threw a bucket of water on THIS threadCry   Go on home people, there's nothing to see here any more today. Yell

Can we add that to "I don't knows" and the "My guess is...'s (or guesses, heck this is tricky!)"

And what other work comes ahead of customer service?

Keeping the site running. And most customer service is driven by ticket work. Staff can and do answer posts in the forums but the best way to get access to staff is via the ticketing system.

I only write the non-committal phrases because I'm not all-knowing and while I can ask staff direct questions, they are busy working on other things (such as tickets and the rest of the site). wink.png

erik has had one Ask Me Almost Anything topic here not too long ago. They created a v3 Group a couple of years ago. They have a Site Feedback & Suggestion forum. There are a number of venues for any member to suggest features.

Did you expect to be directly asked for input?

I've been here eight or nine years. (Nine years if I look up my oldest "friend", eight years since Erik became a "friend"). Still waiting to be asked what would be an improvement for the site. Still waiting to see valid questions answered by someone who is staff, as opposed to just having "staff" in their avatar.

If you're on Erik's friends list, then you could probably drop him a PM and point out this thread to him. Or put the questions to him directly. @Jay has come back on board recently too, so he might be another one who could help you with your concerns.

Martin's pointed out the ways that Chess.com has sought feedback from its members. You seem to be suggesting something like a survey, presumably one sent to all premium members? That actually sounds like a good idea, given the availability and usability of various survey construction, distribution and management tools nowadays, but at this point I would think that any such suggestions would need to be rolled into V4 unless they were simple to implement in V3 (which they may very well be). Were you involved in the previous change from V1 to V2?

(a) I haven't answered any of the "valid questions" either, which presumably refers to CaptainPike's points in his original post , and (b) I'm not the right sort of Staff to answer these questions any more than you are, Martin

v2 is going away .... some time after v3 is the default site, How long after is an erik question.

If enough people report the same thing as a bug, I'm pretty sure that would get the development team's attention.

I'm getting the impression you only wish to hear about bugs and do not appreciate feedback.

Here's the deal though: listening to customer feedback is important for YOU, not for us.

Just trying to brush off people giving feedback will accomplish nothing except cost you valuabe insight how your companies' efforts are being seen from the outside and causing frustration to those customers who take their own free time to gift you some free market research.

Asking those same customers to invest even more of their free time to say the same things again at a different place just because the company is too lazy to deal with the feedback here is not a good practice - neither for you, not for your customers.

It's lose/lose and should be avoided as a classic fail.

Look, I'm not Erik - it sounds like he's asked Solskytz's opinion because he respects it, and if Solskytz finds something sufficiently serious, that will probably delay the turning off of V2. But that will be just until that issue is solved in V3.

Running two versions in parallel is not much fun - once the dev team doesn't have to worry about not breaking V2 or keeping things backwards compatible with it, I expect that they'll be even more effective. It's not like Chess.com is going to sack half the team once V3 goes live - I'm pretty sure they'll start work on the next lot of incremental enhancements and improvements while Erik starts dreaming about what "big" things might be in V4...

Because it is true. I'll look for the posts by erik that state the same thing if you would like.

Last post I saw was that v3 will be default by the end of the month.

Shouldn't the length of time V3 has been in extended, real life testing be an encouragement? It means it's been used by real life members over an extended period of time, so the issues that they've reported have been investigated, addressed, or worked around. Erik has been holding off until he's happy with it - Solskytz's feedback about V3 being much better now, in August 2016, than it was in Dec 2015 is consistent with that idea.

You can't even creat custom themes no more!! Only pick from a certain list of stuff.

I'm working on a v2 theme to glitch into the new software so I have a custom theme, and am not stuck with the new look!!

...

You can choose the Custom theme to pick and choose different elements and upload a custom background if you want.

You also won't be able to "glitch" a v2 theme to work in v3 as the theme code isn't the same. You could always create custom CSS for the site...some browsers support that.

So what you are telling me is that all the group pages I made will be gone as soon as we get V3? So, no one will be able to tell that they are in my Roman themed group vs another group?

I wasn't clear on the "end of the month" thing - isn't V3 already the default for new users? I thought that was when V3 was becoming the only version...

For the third time, can anyone tell me what happened to photos in V3?

Yes, Ronald - I thought I was - then Erik asked me to be specific, I realized that it's been 8 months since I tried v3 - and it has changed greatly!

So I'm officially converted to the v3 camp!!

The site can't please everyone all the time.

During the last big visual redesign, there were the same type of criticisms. There is a huge thread out there when the design went live. Staff took a lot of that and worked through many of the issues people had.

I see no reason that something similar won't happen this time. Bugs will get fixed, the site will be optimized, new features will be worked on, and some things that v3 starts with will be tweaked to improve the overall experience.

Naw, this time is different. See, I ain't never gonna be a Grandmaster cuase I suck at chess. But, I can run a bada** group, and this V3 ain't helping me do that. You can't tell the diffence between my work and the freaking hacks that copy me.
